Bed Buddy Hot Pack by EasyComforts

Carex Bed Buddy Hot/Cold PackI loved this product in its original form..a free flowing tube with two handles on either end. It heated up fast and stayed hot.My original wore out and i purchased a new one. When I opened the package i saw it was much different. (The one in this picture shows OLD one..)

The new one is sewn into 3 narrow chambers. The chambers don't hold heat. Why would they ruin a perfect product, I wondered.

Whoever bought the rights to Bed Buddy ruined the only thing that really helps arthritic necks..thanks alot for nothing new company, and by the way you will go out of business eventually when the buying public ends up returning this NOT original Bed Buddy

Maybe 5 or 6 years ago, I had purchased two of the Original Bed Buddies at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. They were a terrific product: Soft, durable, flexible, and made in the USA. I loved them. Now, they've been used extensively and are showing their age, and I wanted new clean ones so I ordered two of these. My original BB's were long enough to hang around your neck and drape on each side by several inches. They were extremely soft, and the filling inside could be shifted around so that the BB would mold where you needed it to mold. The new one's are about three to four inches shorter...they hang around your neck and stick out on each side because the product is so short and firm that it doesn't drape at all. They've added a seam down the middle that holds the filling tightly in place meaning the BB's aren't flexible or moldable at all. They're also made in China now, which I don't like. I ended up tearing both BB trying to take the stupid seam out (don't even bother trying to remove it as it leaves holes at both ends). This was, and could still be, a great product, but shortcuts by the company (to save money I'm assuming) have ruined another good product. I'm so saddened by this because I have recurring head and neck aches, and this product allowed me to apply heat exactly where I needed it. One last thing, the picture for this item looks like the original product I purchased several years ago. It is NOT a picture of the item they sent me.

What happened to the OLD bed buddy.

This product was manufactured in at least two different generations. In the first generation, the woven bag was stuffed with a lot more of the warmable material inside.

While the second generation prouct does produce heat and works reasoably well, it does not compare to the first go round.

I was disappointed, but did not return it. However, you might also want to consider the:

I've used the Bed Buddy for years and have liked it. When I recently replaced my old one, I was not satisfied with the changes. The Bed Buddy is shorter! And they have divided it into compartments to keep the filling from shifting. The result is a stiffer less flexible product. I much prefer the earlier longer models without the compartments. The shorter length is a disadvantage. However, the Bed Buddy still delivers muscle soothing heat.

My doctor instructed me to apply moist heat to my knee all day for several days and I purchased this item. I works fine, but needs to be reheated about every 20 minutes. Weighing in at 1 lb 11 oz it is also heavy, firmly packed, and definitely too long for use on a joint. The seam that runs the length of it also keeps it from being very flexible. The feel is similar to a "door snake" used to block out drafts. Bed Buddy makes a joint wrap, but I was unable to find one in any store and did not have time to order online.

Another reviewer mentioned making your own with rice and a sock. In this way you can get exactly the size and firmness you want. I used a ribbed thin cotton sock from Kohl's, long grain white rice, and a piece of cotton string. It took about a minute to make and is PERFECT. I heated it in my 1100 watt microwave for a minute (I used 8 oz rice so adjust for size).
