Emergency Dental Kit

Emergency Dental KitI bought this after reading the great reviews here on amazon, boy am I sorry I did. For a moment, will put to the side that the package was missing two items that were listed on the packing list and just concentrate on the contents, of lack thereof. Here is what you get:

Here are the included items I would consider almost without worth or better substituted for your normal bathroom kit item or similar description:

Plastic tweezers. These are absolutely garbage.

Plastic dental mirror. Again, total garbage, even listed as disposable.

5 yrds of floss

2 flat plastic "spatulas." Again, these are just tiny sticks of plastic, garbage.

2 paper dishes. Like the kind you meds would be delivered to a patient in at the hospital.

4 Cotton rolls

A VERY small amount of dental wax

2 gauze pads. The kind you get at any pharmacy for pennies each.

4 200mg tablets of ibuprofen

2 skin wipes like you get after a meal of ribs or chicken wings

As you can see, this stuff is either just plain garbage (tweezers, spatulas, and mirror), or is such an item you A) either already pack (floss, ibuprofen, wipes, etc), or B) really don't need to spend a premium for what little tiny amount you're getting (paper cups, cotton rolls, gauze, etc).

Some items would be useful:

A VERY small amount of temporary cement and temporary filling

1 CC of Eugenol. You read that correctly, ONE CC. Don't spill any!

But again, you can get this stuff at your local pharmacy for WAY, WAY cheaper. Not even close, and I don't mind spending up a bit for a good kit that saves me time running around. This one is just plain poor.

The instructions are laughably silly. This is not a real dental kit. Save your money!! Traveler's supply, expect my return request!

Pleasantly surprised to find this dental kit to be the perfect item for traveling, keeping in the RV, and stashing in my backpack. The cost was intermediate against other kits, so I was wondering if I should have spent more not the case at all. While it does come with a reusable stiff and compact (for the amount of stuff in it) plastic container, it would be nice to have a little nylon zip pouch with soft edges to store the bits. I'll find something around the house to serve that purpose. If you are the kind of person who thinks about what's in your first aid kit, you have to have a dental kit. And there is really nothing else that you need: it covers it all. Overall, pleased.

No one thinks about a leaky filling or cracked tooth before an emergency, but when the pain hits there is nothing more important than relief. It may be for just a week-end or a longer term emergency, but for tooth pain, relief is priceless. I do not have the best teeth in the world and I do not see a dentist every year. I bought this kit because it's necessity was pointed out by an experienced survival expert I admire. If you have any kind of emergency kit, "Go Bag" or survival preparations, you should have this dental kit.

We're full-time RVers and often visit places off the beaten path and away from immediate medical & dental care so I purchased this kit to augment our First Aid Medical kit. I haven't had to use it yet but I did review the items and included instructions. It certainly seems to be adequate to handle any dental problems until you can find a dentist. I also recommend the kit for home First Aid Kits too since dental problems can happen anywhere and if they happen on a weekend or holiday good luck finding a dentist.

If you have a dental problem in the middle of a flood or severe snow storm, this kit is a good tool to have available. It will hold you until you can get to a dentist and get professional help. Added it to my emergency kit to insure that all the bases were covered.

Hylands - Bumps 'N Bruises With Arnica - 125 Tablets ( Multi-Pack)

Hyland's Bumps 'n Bruises with Arnica, Tablets, 125 tabletsThis is definitely a five star product. My whole family uses this with exceptional results. It is marketed for children however my husband and I both have used it with great results. We have infants again at home and we will always have one with us as they become mobile and the inevitable fall will come.

Would highly recommend to anyone with or without children

I have used this with both of my toddlers. It is a fantastic product! As soon as one of my little guys gets a bump (usually an "egg" on the forehead), I give them 2 tablets 2-3 times that day. It decreases severity of swelling and discoloration by 50-60% within the first 24 hours. I can vouch for the difference since there have been many times where I was "out" of the remdy after an injury and it took longer to heal and also looked much worse. Would definitely recommend to parents!! :)

I keep one in the diaper bag (for on the go) and one at home. Great if you have a rough and tough little one. They dissolve super fast when they touch the tongue, so they are great even if you have a stubborn child who refuses to take medicine (like mine who tries to spit things out). These are gone before they even know what you just did!

I have not had any problems with any Hylands products and I have purchased many. There was a report a few years ago that the teething tablets had too much mercury in them and I think they had a call back. I don't know about the other products.

I think arnica is a good product but had been looking for pills with some arnica in them. I didn't realize this was a homeopathic product (ie diluted to nothingness) so they were just milk tablets. I threw them out as useless when I realized the mistake.

Hatch Winter Specialist All-Weather Glove

Hatch Winter Specialist All-Weather Glove, Small, BlackTHIS IS A GREAT PRODUCT. I USED THEM ON A ROAD TRIP I TOOK WITH MY SCOOTER AND THE BATTERY DIED ON ME.

I was wearing this around low 40 degree weather outside. The cold air goes right through the gloves. You feel as though you aren't wearing anything.

It's not winter glove. period.

I have only had these gloves for a little while, but so far I have been impressed. They are very warm and not too bulky. They run a little smaller than I had expected and are a bit stiff, but otherwise are a great pair of gloves.

The Original Boo-Boo Buddy

The Original Boo-Boo BuddyThis is actually my second one. My baby lost hers and had to have another one. The first was found as a counter special at a toy store so I was unable to get it. Of course when it comes to mail order, I only really trust Amazon, so there you go.

I love these reusable cold packs for bumps and bruises. Got it for my little boy, but i also use it for myself. :) Found them at Babies R Us for less than $5. I bought the Elmo cold pack at Target for just under $3.

This smelled so bad of plastic chemicals, I immediately returned it. It gave me a severe headache the moment I opened it. I tried soaking it in vinegar for several hours to get rid of the smell, it didn't help. I couldn't imagine keeping this smelly thing in my freezer, let alone letting my 3 year old use it. Don't bother.

Nexcare Gentle Paper First Aid Tape With Dispenser, 3/4 in x 8 ydsI love this paper tape. It's very genuine to my skin, no irritation, very convenient. I love how it feels. I put it on with some acne lotion on for night, and it works perfectly.

Far better than adhesive tape. It's thin. It breathes. And you barely feel it. I'm reordering for the third time!

I have never been allergic to anything before and I am 59 yrs old but I had some surgery and was left with many dark areas where the latex tape was that still hasn't gone away 3 months post op. this paper tape is gentle enough to use for multle dressing changes.

Want Nexcare Nexcare Gentle Paper Tape 0.75 X 8 Yards Discount?

This tape is NOT gentle. The dispenser tear-off place is a joke. The tape is TOO stretchy and once it's on there, it HURTS to take it off. A total sadistic joke by the medical industry.

Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol 70% USP 16 fl oz (1 PT) 473ml

Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol 70% USP 16 fl oz 473mlAh, yes. What a soothing pleasure it is to rub some alcohol into some sore and tired muscles. 'Tis like an elixir. Nasty cut? RUBBING ALCOHOL is a first-rate antiseptic to stave off an infection (talk about nasty).

I'm a big (literally and figuratively) proponent of ISOPROPRYL RUBBING ALCOHOL (70%). I don't recommend any rubbing alcohol with a higher pure alcohol content of 70%, as it tends to be drier than the Sahara itself, and literally evaporates before it can be applied. Rubbing alcohol is a first aid product, to be sure, but come on, it's also a disinfectant. Because it's pure and sterilizes, try using it to disinfect your bathroom floor (sans carpet, of course); talk about clean. Worried about germs around your fixtures and sinks? Yep, rub a little rubbing alcohol to the area for instant gleam.

Whether it be cuts or cleaning, ISOPROPYL RUBBING ALCOHOL (70%) gets the job done. Just not for consumption, but you knew that already.

New-Skin New-Skin Antiseptic Liquid Bandage

New-Skin Liquid Bandage -- 1 fl ozI have a callus which cracks and bleeds frequently. Keeping it dry long enough to heal is a real challenge. Before this product appeared, basically, I *always* had a small open crack in the callus. Some days I would try and go through 10-20 bandages. Other days, I just blew it off.

Liquid bandage changed all that. Apply some disinfectant, then the liquid bandage and I'm usually healed up in about a day or two.

It's economical too. One bottle has lasted close to five years. I had to toss it because it was turning yellow.

What won't it do?

It's only waterproof. Other liquids like oil, or nail polish remover will strip if off in a hurry.

It peels off easily if you are bending and flexing the wound site. Bending and flexing while the stuff dries will help.

It won't stick to wet wounds. You want to stop the bleeding first!

I have been using this product since I was a kid, as my mom used it before me. She is a hairstylist, I am an electrician, but regardless of occupation, I can't imagine a time, (on appropriately sized wounds), that this product isn't perfect.

Does it sting? Yessir it does. I use it on wounds that are probably supposed to be to big for it, so believe me, I have dealt with some stinging. However, as some other reviewers have said, not only does the stinging subside relatively quick, but with it goes the original pain.

Does it stink? Eh, I guess, but when a product works, it's forgiven. Meet someone who is not the most attractive person in the world and then fall in love with them, it might not make them a beauty queen, but they look better all the time to you.

Simply put, this product, when used correctly, works. my recommendations are as follows.

1. Put this product on as you are watching your evening TV. This will accomplish three things, one, it allows you to apply and let dry without thinking about it, two, while you're sleeping, it seems to setup extra strong. It will not just rub off throughout the night, and with no hand washing or anything going on, it really has a chance to take. Finally, you at least have that first overnight period of healing under your belt, and you will often times be amazed at what that small amount of time can accomplish.

2. Apply New Skin generously. As it settles it will thin out, but how thin do you need it to be? I apply two, sometimes three coats.

Using these two tips, I have had wounds heal incredibly fast.

I've had problems with a split on the thumb of my right hand and it just doesn't want to heal. Tried this product this morning and so far it's working great. Yes, it stings and smells but I don't care. It has closed the wound and eased the pain greatly.

It does work. It stings like crazy until it's dry and because of this I can't imagine putting it on a child's cut but it does the job for me. My fingertips crack in the winter and I thought I'd try this instead of applying bandages all the time. I'm really glad I did.

Want New-Skin New-Skin Antiseptic Liquid Bandage Discount?

I have found New Skin liquid bandage to be really effective, particularly in treating smaller cuts and abrasions. It comes in a bottle with a brush on applicator. New Skin's active ingredient is the antiseptic 8-Hydroxyquinoline. As applying New Skin to a cut basically seals up the wound, it's best that the wound be disinfested, and be as clean as possible, before you apply the product.

New Skin can definitely sting when first applied, but the pain usually doesn't last long, and the liquid typically dries very quickly. Even when it hardens, the substance is still relatively flexible, and will "crack" when bent or stressed. This is generally a good thing, as being flexible the "bandage" doesn't tend to do additional damage by further tearing the skin. Often, just a slight reapplication to fill up the cracks works well.

I find that wounds sealed with New Skin tend to heal faster, and require less care. New Skin is supposedly breathable, and water-resistant, which can be very convenient. For added physical protection, you can apply a Band-Aid or equivalent over a wound.

The product seems to work well on various types of wounds. It's great for straight "paper cut" wounds. And also for scrapes or abrasions where there is loose skin hanging. New Skin can be used to "glue" down loose flaps of skin, which may promote faster healing, and depending on how badly the tissue is damaged, might in some cases, help reduce scarring.

Although New Skin contains an antiseptic, using the brush applicator might be a potential source of infection. Say a person has a wound that is bleeding, and New Skin is brushed on. If you insert the brush back into the bottle, you may be contaminating the remaining solution with blood, skin, dirt, germs, or who knows what. A 1.0 ounce bottle of New Skin can treat a great number of wounds. It seems logical that the more times you use the brush on various wounds, the higher the possibility that some kind of contamination might occur.

While this is probably not a life threatening situation, being a little more conscious about hygiene when using New Skin or any liquid bandage, seems like a good idea. If possible, try and stop any bleeding before applying. The brush is extremely convenient, but using a clean cotton swab to apply the product, may help to reduce the chances of contamination, particularly with a messy wound.

Unless you treat a lot of injuries, a bottle of New Skin can last for quite a while. Having used New Skin for many years, I have seen the product degrade over time. Normally the liquid is clear, with a consistency similar to nail polish. When it gets old, the color can get darker, almost brown, and the solution can get gooey. If this starts to happen, I would toss it out and get a new bottle.

When used appropriately and with care, New Skin liquid bandage is a great product that helps you heal faster. It's widely available in drug stores, so you may be able to get a better price locally.
