Adventure Medical Kits Dental Medic Kit

Adventure Medical Kits Dental Medic KitNobody has to be told how much a toothache can hurt. I have had toothaches before that have throbbed so heavily that I would have gladly traded it for a shotgun blast to a limb anytime. Toothaches inflict us for different reasons. Sometimes its a tooth that we know was giving us trouble for quite a while, and now it has decided to gain our attention with a vengeance. Other times its a filling that falls out where the nerve can possibly be exposed, a loose crown or bridge, or even a broken tooth after an accident. Anyone that has had any of these unfortunate events befall them know how extremely painful it can sometimes be. And, we all know how our dentist just seems to feel a disturbance in the force beforehand, and be off somewhere on a beach enjoying lobster and cracked crab just when we need them most. We could very well end up being at the mercy of trusting some unknown prospector with a dental pic, and at the very least being in the hole for a whole lot of hard earned cash.

The Adventure Medical Dental Kit is something I have had along in my car on every vacation, and in my backpack on every wilderness excursion for years now. And on a hike in 2006, I actually ended up needing it. A fresh filling from a couple of months before suddenly took a notion to come tumbling out, and in just a few minutes I was feeling the aching that was sure to turn into agony eventually. (I had waited for some time before going to the dentist, and the hole he drilled rivaled the grand canyon). I was at least 2 hours away from an established trail, and in another state in any event upon my arrival back in civilization. This kit contained all that I needed to set a good solid temporary filling that along with some oil of clove that is also included in the kit, eventually quelled the pain entirely. I decided to trust it and not cut my hike short. I never felt a thing for the entire rest of the trip, or on the way home.

The Dental Medic Kit contains materials for temporary fillings, pain tincture, cement for loose crowns, and even material for temporary bridge repair. Just try to imagine being far away from home or civilization for any given reason and having such a painful emergency arise. This kit is a must carry along for any excursion that takes you beyond your city limits in my opinion. It is very reasonably priced, easy to use, and has very clear instructions. And, it is also something that is very hard to find anywhere but online. I advise you to pick it up here on Amazon. And one last thing. Despite the other reviewer here that made it a direct point in making us all aware that this kit is for temporary repair only, my own personal experience was that there was definitely no big rush. I ended up keeping my temp repair for almost 2 months before I finally got around to getting it professionally repaired. (I had to locate another dentist that filled teeth that actually stay filled). The kit itself makes it perfectly clear that all its repairs are for emergencies, and on a temporary basis. They are certainly not going to be so stupid as to tell you that "the repair is cool, so don't knock yourself out". "Whenever you get around to it". The real truth as to its being transitory lies somewhere between racing off to the dentist like a maniac, and moseying on over there 6 months later, or if an when you ever think of it. Most repairs done with this kit will last for quite a reasonable amount of time. (Unless its strictly an aching tooth from decay. All this kit will offer then is pain killer, that will eventually get overwhelmed, and so will you. Get to a dentist). If you end up having to use this kit for any other reason, relax, it makes a very good temporary repair. Don't venture far from home without it. Highly recommended...

This kit includes some very poorly written instructions on a small piece of paper. Not really an instruction manual. It includes mainly common items you already havetoothpicks, cotton balls, dental floss. I needed the kit for the first time since I bought it (one year ago) today when a filling came out. The one item that I had thought would be useful, the tube of temporary filling repair, turned out to be all dried out and so I could not use it. If something you keep on hand for emergencies does not even last for a year, I have a problem with it. It was not in a hot car, it was in our medicine cabinet. So I am back on Amazon looking for something better, and while I was here I decided to review this kit.

Important I think to have a dental as well as a medical kit around the house and certainly while traveling.

This is a solid basic dental kit. However, like me you may want to add some items to the kit like a mask, nitrate gloves, dental mirror and maybe a hemostat.

If you want to go beyond this basic kit check out Chinook Medical, whom I highly recommend, on the web as they offer some good alternatives at slightly more cost.

This kit has all the basics to temporarily restore a lost dental filling. Specifically, the kit contains detailed instructions for what to do if you lose a filling, lose a tooth, or have other dental/oral emergencies. The list of ingredients are as follows: 5 Cotton Pellets, 5 Cotton Rolls, Dental Floss, Dental Medic Instructions, Tea Bag, 100% Natural Pekoe Tea, Temporary Cavity Filling Mixture, 3 Tooth Picks, and 1 Wax Rope. The medication inside is 2 Anbesol/Orasol, consisting of Benzocaine 20%.

The kit is designed for TEMPORARY relief of pain associated with a dental/oral injury or mishap. The kits is designed for those who will not be able to access dental care for a short period of time.

The kit is lacking in one key ingredient; ideally, it should have a (liquid) medium to store a dislocated tooth in while travelling to a dental office for reimplantation. In a pinch, milk will suffice.

Dental fillings can be lost for several reasons: decay, fracture, or a faulty filling. It is important to realize that this is a temporary fix and not meant to last weeks or months. If your tooth has decay in it, the decay will continue to progress despite the temporary. Get to a dentist and have the tooth repaired professionally.
