Bulb Syringe Aspirator

Bulb Syringe AspiratorSo relieved to find this product. Our aspirator the hospital gave us split at the seam and no longer worked, and we couldn't find one that worked as well anywhere else. Looked in every store and pharmacy in the area, and online usually just the same is sold as in stores. This one has amazing suction and has been a total lifesaver. It's actually even slightly better than the one we had from the hospital, I think because the bulb is a little bigger it has more suction. Can't say enough good things about it, especially in light of how horrible the ones in stores are. I am so glad we ordered 2 one for the diaper bag and one for home.

this is exactly the same as the aspirator I got in the hospital when my son was born--it works better than any other I've been able to find in stores, and it comes in an individual sterile package, just like hospitals have.

I am editing this review about a year after the original review which follows the "Original Review" header below.

I use this syringe several times a day to spray (not as a suctioning mechanism), and the two other brands of syringe I had before this one both came apart at the seam within a couple of months. So I was assuming that that's the way it was going to go. But the first instance of this brand of syringe that I have been using lasted over a year. But based on this single bit of anecdotal evidence I'll keep buying this brand unless things change radically.

Also, it seems that my original conjecture, that this syringe might not separate as quickly as the other brands because it has a slightly larger aperture, may have been correct.

Original Comments:

There is more than one version of this type of bulb syringe on Amazon. They all look pretty much the same, so one problem is that, at least on the ones I've seen, there is no identification code or text on the syringe itself that would allow you to differentiate between versions. This particular one has a 2 oz. capacity (although I don't see it documented anywhere on the website or it's links). Also, this syringe is sterile, so it comes in a plastic enclosure which documents the manufacturer as AMSINO and the product name as AMSure.

Generally, when they mention it, all the reviewers agree that it was exactly, or almost exactly, like the one they were given at the hospital. But they sometimes complain that the suction capability of the syringe is not the same as the one they had seen before. And they complain that the syringe separates along the "equator" seam between the top part and the bottom part where the two are fused together.

First, all the versions are going to separate eventually. I don't know which versions are better fused but I suspect that the warmer the liquid that the syringe is exposed to, the faster it will separate. The glop they use to make the fusion isn't documented of course, so it's a crap shoot.

On the issue of suction power here is my take: One important difference between versions is the size of the opening at the tip. That size is not documented in the specs either. This one has a larger opening than others I've seen and that causes the suction strength (or the spray strength if that's how it's being used) to be lower than that on versions with smaller apertures. Also, if you are spraying, the smaller aperture on other versions will cause you to have to squeeze harder to get the liquid out, and that pressure could well result in the seam separating faster in those other versions.

This is the same bulb we got from the hospital when my daughter was born. I like it simply because it's very easy to squeeze. We've had other aspirators that are simply difficult to press, making sucking boogers out of your fussy child's tiny nose more of a chore than it already is. Hard to write a raving review for a manual aspirator, but this is the best one we've used.

Love this aspirator. It's the kind that most hospitals use. It's the most flexible material I've seen so it works like a dream. Loved the price, too. The only other store that sells it is Babies R usbut it's a little but more money to buy it. Would recommend this to ANYONEthe best booger sucker out there.

Stoko 100 Ml Tube Reduran Special Specialty Dye Removal Hand Cleaner

Stoko 100 Ml Tube Reduran Special Specialty Dye Removal Hand CleanerI bought this to remove ink from my hands after filling fountain pens. It works very well. I've learned to wet my hands first and then apply the Reduran and lather it. It's not too drying to my skin (although I do wash with Cetaphil after using this product to remove all traces of it).

Pirate Bandage Assortment

Pirate Bandage AssortmentI'd had great luck with the 3" x 3/4" pirate bandages from the same company, so I decided to try these. They're adorable, and so much fun! The large bandages are perfect and stick quite well. Unfortunately, the smaller skull bandages (while really cute), are mostly gauze backing without enough adhesive area, so they just don't stay on very long.

So, these aren't the quality of Band Aid brand. They're the quality of a discount store generic bandage. You're buying them for the pirates, tho. I keep them in my bag during my daughter's Lakeshore Pirates softball games. Any cuts or scrapes now look like a fashion statement. Arrg!

The smaller bandages aren't really useful as bandages, and unfortunately those are the most abundant.

They should simply sell these as stickers.

Adventure Medical Kits Dental Medic Kits

Adventure Medical Kits Dental Medic KitMost people don't consider dental emergencies when outfitting the first aid kit. However, if you are in the middle of nowhere and something happens to your teeth, this little kit provides some temporary relief until you can get to a dentist. It contains dental wax temporary filling, temporary cavity filling, cotton pellets, cotton rolls, dental floss and tooth picks for care and anbesol/orasol, benzocaine and a tea bag for pain relief. It all fits in a 5" square pouch along with a set of instructions. It's small enough to augment the first aid kit and is a must have in my opinion.

I'm a retired paramedic, and very few people think of dental emergencies when making up a comprehensive medical kit. If you're a wilderness or third world traveler, you need to have one of these in your kit. After trauma and the usual GI problems, dental emergencies are the most common (and one of the most painful) things you'll treat. Kit contains enough material for two temporary filling replacements, cotton balls and benzocaine ointment, and even a tea bag. Even though you may not think of a tea bag as part of a dental kit, the tannic acid can really help relieve swelling from an impacted tooth.

Zicam Cold Remedy RapidMelts Citrus -- 25 Quick Dissolve Tablets

Zicam Cold Remedy RapidMelts Citrus -- 25 Quick Dissolve TabletsI felt scratch throat then

I bought Zicam rapid melts took for two days I had no colds or chest infection symptoms

The last time I had scratch throat I was in bed sick for a week took mucinex but it didn't

resolve anything, with zicam cold syptoms gone!!

I've been using the CVS store brand without stomach aches or nasty taste problems despite what the fact that the box warns of possible stomach aches. I bought a bottle of the Zicam brand to see if the original product worked any better but the taste is just plain awful. The citrus flavoring doesn't cut it. I dissolve a tablet then I throw it away when I get near the core cuz that's when it starts tasting really bad. Plus you get bad stomach acid from this if you use on an empty stomach. I can dissolve the CVS brand on an empty stomach without acid problems AND (unlike the Zicam) it actually tastes good. Ironic that this becomes a case where a generic brand is actually better to take than the actual brand. As far as whether or not the product works, I'm sure it does. It's helping my current cold where I dont have a crazy stuffy nose. But if you want to avoid stomach acid and nasty tastes dont do the Zicam brand.

Zicam RapidMelts have killed many a sore throat of mine. As soon as you feel a cold coming on or your throat starts to get scratchy, pop one of these in your mouth, and keep taking them every three hours for the rest of the day. If that doesn't kill your stuffy nose (and it will), take more the next day until your symptoms are gone.

Though Zicam doesn't work as well once you already have a full blown cold, it can help you get well more quickly. I highly recommend Zicam to anyone who gets head colds and sore throats frequently.

Grabber Outdoors The Original Space Brand Emergency Tactical-Survival Blanket- Olive-Drab/Silver (P

Grabber Outdoors The Original Space Brand Emergency Tactical-Survival Blanket- Olive-Drab/SilverThese are the real, original space blankets, I strongly recommend these (in any color) over any other over-priced or chinese knock-off survival blankets.

Space blankets are a very thin aluminum-coated plastic sheet (mylar), no thicker than a garbage bag but much tougher. Mylar doesn't tear or puncture easily. These are called blankets, but don't get these confused with the thick, heavy-duty tarp-like space blankets. These are really one-use, throw-away emergency items.

Light, cheap and very functional. They can be a tarp, blanket, rain poncho, water carrier and a host of other stuff. There's a lot of ways to use these, and I typically carry a couple in my car and when camping. These blankets come in 3 colors, green/silver, orange/silver and silver/silver. I use the green/silver so that I don't stand out or look like an accident victim like you would when using the orange blanket.

When camping or traveling, take one of these along. They're light and small, don't take up any room, use them if you need to and then throw away.

You know, I wasn't really a believer in these things until I used them to prevent shock as a paramedic. They work incredibly well if you wrap yourself in them very tightly. I've seen them save lives, and I thought I'd stick a couple in my car for emergencies.

I set up a little, limited scientific experiment to test their value. Here it is:

DO NOT TRY THIS YOURSELF!

First, I took my temperature with a medical-grade thermometer. 98.6 deg F, right on the money. I walked out on my back porch in Chicago on a 20 degree night, wearing jeans and a tee shirt. I wrapped myself in one of these blankets, very tightly with my head covered, then sat in a lawn chair for the next two hours. Don't worry, I wasn't too bored, I had an audiobook. I walked inside and took my temperature again. 98.3 deg F. Not too shabby, not at all.

I repeated the experiment the next night, at 22 deg F, with almost identical results. The next night, it was 26 degrees. I sat out on my porch WITHOUT the blanket, as a control, as long as I could bear it, which was about an hour and a half. My temperature without the blanket after 1.5 hours was 96.4 deg F. A very big difference.

As a medical profesional, I am very impressed with the lifesaving potential of this product. I've worked with kids and the elderly who became hypothermic after being exposed for just a half hour in 50 degree weather.

Now, I won't say I was wonderfully comfortable with just this product and a tee shirt. It was not pleasant. And my temperature did drop some. If you were exposed with just this blanket, dressed as I was, for more than 5 or 6 hours, you'd probably have a problem. Especially if the temperatures were below those at which I tested it. As your core temp drops, your body will focus heat in vital organs, away from the skin. Therefore, there is less heat for this blanket to reflect back, and the rate of temperature decline will accelerate.

But if you're stranded in a car with a coat, or inside a dugout shelter, this is pretty valuable. In a survival situation, I highly recommend putting this INSIDE your warmer clothes against your skin. It will exponentially increase the effectiveness of the product, in my experience. In any case, make this an inner, not an outer layer, or your blankets and layering for sleep.

I don't consider myself a "prepper" really, but I do keep emergency gear in my car in case I need to walk, and a little bug-out-bag at home just in case. Why not? It's not expensive, and a little entertaining if nothing else. Plus if things ever do go downhill quickly, you're a little better off having options.

Anyhow, the problem with normal mylar survival blankets is they're quite bright if you're trying NOT to be found. They're either orange or mirror silver made specifically to be visible. That's why I chose these blankets. If you don't want people to see you, olive green is pretty much the way to go. Moreover, this material Is VERY tough. I'm a big, strong dude and I had trouble ripping it. That's impressive.

Buy Grabber Outdoors The Original Space Brand Emergency Tactical-Survival Blanket- Olive-Drab/Silver (P Now

For the price, this is a good buy. There are two sides to the material--one side highly metalic, one side OD green. The green side does not ever flake off from the metal. We purchased these blankets to provide an outer rain cover over our tent, and this item does that nicely. We added grommets also, but the material does tear after modest use (several days on the tent). This material is extremely light weight and yet less than paper thin. My son wrapped it around himself to see if it would work also as a blanket, and reported that it really did have a modest warming effect. You would have to get use to the metalic "crinkle" sound every time you move, however. For what it's for and it's price, I think this item is a very reasonable buy. I will say we used this material through a number of very substantial and motivated Alaskan rain downpours and the material is the only thing that saved us from being soaked inside the tent. For our use, the box of material lasted a little over a week as a tent cover.

Don't let the color fool you. These are NOT to be mistaken for "Sportsman's blankets" or "casualty blankets". These are the thin survival mylar type blankets, not the heavy duty survival blankets.

Want Grabber Outdoors The Original Space Brand Emergency Tactical-Survival Blanket- Olive-Drab/Silver (P Discount?

At first when I received the emergency blanket I was a little surprised and disappointed as I wasn't expecting the Mylar type material. One reviewer said that this is more of a one use type blanket which is typically true. But I wanted to do a little torture test just to see how bad it is.

So I took a decent size piece and crumpled the heck out of it expecting to have green flakes all over the place and a bunch of holes in the blanket. I was quite wrong about that. There was light shining through tiny looking holes but it was just because of the very small places where the olive drab color came off. It came off but very little. The light holes weren't actually physical holes for air or water to come through though. So already it is very impressive.

I also tried stretching and tearing the material. It is typically pretty hard to stretch and eventually does give. As for the tearing, it is also hard to tear but once it's torn, the tear runs very easily.

With this blankets compact size folded and enormous size when unfolded, this is the perfect emergency blanket to keep wherever you think you may needed. Cheap enough for one use, durable enough for a couple uses. A recommended buy for anyone who likes to be prepared.

Edit: I wanted to note one more thing for those who haven't had much experience with mylar type materials. It is a bit noisy with all its rustling. The olive drab color is nice for a sort of camouflage in the wilderness but the noise can render that useless. Not a huge deal but I thought it was worth the mention.

PIYO PIYO BABY NAIL SCISSORS (Precision made for baby's nails)

PIYO PIYO BABY NAIL SCISSORSEven though my pediatrician had alerted me that he'd seen more accidents with nail clippers than with baby scissors, I thought I was doing fine with the clippers. until my baby made a sudden move with her hand while I was trimming her thumb nail and 'voila', I accidentally took a piece of her sensitive flesh and it bled, and it hurt, she cried tears and screamed. I made a pledge to never use clippers again and to search for the best and safest baby scissors. When I found these I ordered them because she was going too many days without nail trimming and she was scratching herself with sharp baby nails. I didn't see a review so I wasn't sure if it was good. At first I thought it was a little expensive but I needed it soon so there was no time to browse longer. The minute these scissors got here I used them and have used them ever since to keep her nails nicely trimmed. It is the BEST 10 bucks I've spent on baby stuff. The scissors are slightly bend forming a little curve (very slightly) which helps with angle. No need to say, the ends are round. It is sharp, much better than the clippers. I notice that the clippers left some kind of 'nail residue', like you needed to finish with sanding the nails. These scissors cut nicely and easily. And I feel safer using them. They come with a protection case cap, which is cute and keeps the metal away from moist and all. I highly recommend this product. You still have to be careful trimming baby's nails, of course. But to me, this is safer and gives me a well finished job.

I did not cut my baby's nails for a while because I heard horror stories from almost every parent I knew about bleeding fingers during the first clipping. Eventually, my daughter's nails grew to the point that they had to be trimmed. I read the reviews and selected this product, and I am glad I did. First, we have had no injuries or bleeding of any kind. Cutting her nails is pretty painless. With the scissors compared to clippers, I feel like there is more control and less chance of my baby's finger getting clipped accidentally. There still is some hassle in lining up the scissors over the nail on tiny, squirmy fingers, but the design of the scissors is an asset in getting this done quickly, painlessly, and successfully.

These are easy to use and quite cute. The only issue I have is that my baby still has sharp talons (especially the corners) even if I de-claw her every few days, but perhaps she is just a wild beast.

This isn't much of an update except to say that every time I use these I think of my review and how I wish I could truly convey how much I love these. These are my favorite baby product. You can see I write a lot of reviews. I'd stake my reputation on a promise that you will love these scissors. Such a crazy thing that you can love a pair of baby scissors this much. But they are such a joy to use. They feel so safe. And as I use them I know that I'm doing something "dangerous" but yet you can tell what you're doing is safe.

I love these scissors so much. You should definitely buy these and forget about anything else you're considering. I have clippers and another pair of scissors. But nothing compares. You will love them. I came back just so I could say that again.

Original review below:

-----

No matter how safe baby clippers seem to be, I always have a sense of "I hope I don't catch her fingertip" when I finally clipped down. It's not that I was being reckless it's just that the clip happens all at once and it feels like you have less control.

These PIYO scissors are much more precise and you can control the speed at which you actually cut you can make completely sure that there is only tiny fingernail beween the blades. I am much more comfortable with these and will never go back to clippers. Not the ones with the magnifying glass ... not the ones with the light ... they are all gimmicks. This is safe and all the control you need. Much easier to use too. And with no snap like you have with clippers, far less likely to wake baby up. I received these as a gift, and have thanked the giver many times over. I plan of gifting these to other new moms in the future.

Want PIYO PIYO BABY NAIL SCISSORS (Precision made for baby's nails) Discount?

I love these scissors. They give you better control than regular nail clippers for baby. My daughter has small hand, and the nail clipper doesn't provide the same precision around the tip. However, I can only trim her nails when she's sleeping and not moving her hands around.

Combat Casualty Reference Cards

Combat Casualty Reference CardsHas alot of information but does not have the information I thought would be on them. Treat a gunshot wound or trauma.

These combat casualty cards have very, very, VERY limited information on it. You would be better served making your own which is what I plan on doing. It's a great idea but the execution was not thoroughly carried out. These cards are supposed to be quick reference cards and I do understand that but there are only a few procedures on these cards.

Water Jel Combo Pack by Rescue Essentials

Water Jel Combo Pack by Rescue EssentialsAs the other reviewer stated EVERY home should have these, they seem pricy, but if one of the family ever suffers a burn they are PRICELESS!

REALLY these things are unreal on how well they work.

BTW In their packs they will last for years.

I had a bad steam burn on my knee, with one of these on my knee only a small blister appeared after a bad burn. We have also used them on the kids for a burn from the stove.

My neighbor suffered a bad burn from starting a fire with gas, which exploded, these probably saved him from having skin grafts. (Even the Docs commented on how well he healed.)

But we used all the gel packs on him (he was bad!) and so ordered a new supply.

This kit gives you all the sizes you should need, unless you have a 'whole body' burn...(they have body size gel packs too.)

Hopefully we'll never have to use them, but if we have an emergency we'll have them.

These should be in every home's First Aid kits. Whether you are an "old Boy Scout" or not, you should be prepared for any and all emergencies, from a splinter to a major burn. All "Water Jel" products both soothes the burn but also protects the burn/wound and promotes healing! I should know...

I had a very nasty steam burn on the inside of my arm and we used one of the Water Jel burn gel pre-soaked pads, then wrapped that up in gauze for a couple of days. The burn was significant, but the gel helped reduce the pain and kept me from losing a large portion of skin from that inside tender part of your arm. My doctor said without the gel, I may have had much more serious blistering and scarring.

These water-jel packs make a significant difference in damage reduction and pain relief when applied as soon as possible after burning occurs. Our burn-care combo pack includes a large, retangular 8x18 dressing good for large areas like the stomach, chest or back; a very cool facial dressing (no pun intended); a long, rectangular 4x16 dressing for an arm or leg; two 4x4 dressings; and two 2x6 dressings. We plan on getting a body-towel dressing, but this combo pack is an excellent start or addition to any first-aid kit. We've had to use these before and were absolutely amazed, stunned even, at how well they work at instantly easing the exruciating pain of a burn. More importantly, they make a major difference as to how severe the burn is, especially if applied immediately after the burn (the sooner the better). These stunt the burning process, keep the burn from getting worse and, therefore, from hurting and scarring as badly. We can't say enough about these miraculous burn dressings.

This is one of those items that have no competition. Used one of the packets when a friend spilled boiling hot cooking grease; the relief -in pain and burning sensationwas instant, blistering was minimal and the healing was very quick with no scarring. This particular combo is cost-effective as it contains both minor small area packets and one large (like the one I used to wrap an entire hand and forearm) to address almost any need. These are in my home and vehicle 1st aid kits.

First Aid Only OSHA First Aid Kit - 196 PiecesI spent some time bid tabbing first aid kits before making this purchase. What I found is that this kit will deal with almost every basic household first aid need, plus some more.

After you buy this kit, I'd recommend adding a few safety pins (for blisters and for dressings) and an instant cold compress (for burns or bruises). If you're going to put the kit in a cabin or take it on vacation, add some waterproof matches.

Overall, this kit is a top notch and perfect for Kitchen or Basement. I gave one to my uncle for his cabin and it's great there, too.

One caution: A lot of the kits have more components, but unless you spend some time filtering through the component lists, you'll end up with 15,000 3/4" band aids instead of the variety of tools you need to treat your cuts and bruises.
