These are mediocre icepacks. I bought a bunch to deal with sports injuries after practice, but I am using them less and less. When the user squeezes the pouch, it breaks an internal seal that allows two chemicals to mix cooling the pouch. However, the pressure required varies substantially. I've had several pouches that need me to jump on them (at risk of rupturing the outer pouch) before they work. The next problem is that the chemicals inside are both solid and liquid, this results in a pouch that is truly cold only when it is being shaken. As soon as the shaking stops, the temperature rises to "cool" but nothing close to ice cold. Often my hands end up chilled when it's my knee or ankle that needs the therapy.

I've used more expensive pouches before, and I think I'll avoid budget ice packs in the future. In my experience, other packs that use only liquid chemicals create a more extreme cold that does not require prolonged shaking to work.

It is very difficult to squeeze the ice pack. Especially in an emergency.

Had to step on it to pop the inner contents.
