As a civilian contractor in Afghanistan this book and a well stocked medical kit, Appendix B, are essential items. Be sure to get the third edition, which contains current CPR protocols, as of October 2010 when I took CPR for the Professional from the Red Cross of America.
An extremely well-written, easy to carry on hikes and bikes, book that will help you manage almost any trail emergency. Excellent.
