'Slo-Niacin Slo-Niacin Slo-Niacin Polygel Controlled-Release Niacin, 500 mg, 100 Tablets'"Niacin can raise HDL -the "good" cholesterol -by 15 to 35 percent. This makes niacin the most effective drug available for raising HDL cholesterol. While niacin's effect on HDL is of most interest, it's worth noting that niacin also decreases your LDL and triglyceride levels. High levels of LDL and triglycerides are significant risk factors for heart disease." The Mayo Clinic

SloNiacin will totally prevent the intolerable itching and flushing side effects of regular niacin. Non-flush niacin does not achieve the good cholesterol lowering effects of niacin because it is a different compound: inositol hexaniacinate.

I bought my Slo -Niacin at Wal-Mart, 100 tablets for $12.94. The price from this merchant seems very high as of course you also must pay postage. I'm rating this compound with three stars because of the price. Otherwise I would give it five stars.

The tablets are scored so you can break them in half if you choose. I am currently on 750 milligrams a day and will eventually work up to twice that.

Since Slo -Niacin is much cheaper than statins with virtually no side effects, while statins have many, I feel this is the way to go.

First, I got the worst flush with this product so the claim of NO FLUSH is blatantly false. Problem is the FLUSH doesn't happen all the time which just means that the manufacturing process of the product is SLOPPY. One of the things that good vitamin/supplement manufacturers pride themselves on is "Product Standards" a type of gaurantee that every pill has equal amounts of the the supplement you are purchasing. If I get FLUSH on Monday but not on Tuesday means that there is not quality control.

Additionally, there is HYDROGENATED VEGETABLE OIL. According to the Mayo Clinic Website, "When it comes to fat, trans fat is considered by some doctors to be the worst type of fat. Unlike other fats, trans fat -also called trans-fatty acids -both raises your "bad" (LDL) cholesterol and lowers your "good" (HDL) cholesterol." I called the manufacturer for a refund and they declined.
