Essential Medical Supply Free Spirit Knee and Leg Walker

Essential Medical Supply Free Spirit Knee and Leg WalkerI have rented one of these for $120 per month. I have a foot injury which just won't seem to heal. I tried using crutches and they're so hard on the rest of your body. This device puts a little stress on the good foot, but nothing like crutches, and very little strain on your upper body. It has sturdy, wide wheels that roll very smoothly. The rear wheels being placed close together leaves space for the foot that you are propelling yourself with. The front wheels turn pretty sharply, but due to the length of the unit, the overall turning radius is still pretty big. The front tiller folds down for transport, although it doesn't lock in place in the folded position, so it can flop around when you try to pick it up to stow it in the car. The mechanism to lock/unlock the tiller in the upright position is a little cumbersome, but workable. When I got the unit, the tiller was unstable when I leaned on it, but I was able to tighten various joints to eliminate this problem. In addition to resting your knee on the pad to move about you can sit on it to do tasks. The brakes are pretty effective and the unit feels quite stable, so I have no fear of gliding down a long decline. It's possible to go up or down a short step, but a little tricky. The unit is very solidly built, with heavy duty welds at all major joints. It is also a little heavy for getting in and out of the car.

I'm writing this first of my Amazon reviews because I am a huge fan of this product. I had ankle surgery four weeks ago. For the first week and a half I had too much pain to lower my leg and return to the world. Once the pain was gone, remembering life on crutches from earlier broken bones, etc., I dreaded making my way around. My doctor recommended a knee walker, and Mayo Clinic rented me one of these. Amazing. I scoot down the halls where I work, through grocery stores, anywhere with a smooth surface, even sidewalks outside. Not much effort to it, and it's no trick to balance. I did test drive another at a clinic where I live--a kneebop, I believe, and found it much less substantial and stable that the Essential Medical. If you're interested in having a knee walker, this is the one for you. My only complaint is that when you take the brakes off lock they spring up hard. One whack and next time you'll keep your fingers out of the way.

I purchased this for use after my foot surgery. I am not strong enough for crutches, and due to an old back injury I can't hop with a walker. The knee walker is perfect. I lock the wheels and use its handle bars to help me stand from a sitting position. When sitting in a chair, I can use it to elevate my foot. It easily supports my weight (>200lb) and clears the smallest doors in my house. It took a little practice, but I can now maneuver in the smallest places.

I was THRILLED to pick up my Free Spirit Knee and Leg walker today, after spending a week on crutches following Achilles tendon surgery. This device has given me a huge boost emotionally as well as practically. First of all, it's easy to navigate, and I haven't had any problems with balance or the ability to move it easily. It's compact, and rolls very smoothly and feels stable. The knee cushion is especially comfortable. The little bag in front is handy and holds even a tall cup pretty well (it's been very constraining not to even be able to get from the kitchen to the sofa with a drink you'll still need a cap on that drink though). It's narrow enough to go through smaller doorways easily, but wide enough to make me feel stable as I use it. I used it to run into Walmart for just a couple of things, and it was a breeze to use, though of course I couldn't carry much up to the checkout. The brakes work well, and you can lock them and even sit down on the little seat if you need to give your knee a break. One note though this device requires a lot less strength to use than crutches, you will still have to use your "good leg" pretty extensively. Also, the scooter is not super-light if you are weak, you may not be able to easily get it into a vehicle by yourself. I personally didn't have a real hard time leaning on the car to get to the back door and pull the scooter out, but it was a little tricky. If you have any issues with balance, you may still want to use your crutches while you're getting the scooter out of the vehicle. Also, you will have to plan your trips to use EITHER the scooter or the crutches, because you sure can't carry crutches while scooting on this thing, and it definitely will not work if you have to go up any steps. Overall, though, this little device is a real life-improver in my opinion, and I am very glad I shelled out the money for it. It's given me a level of independence that I didn't have before, and lessened both my frustration, as well as my husband's!

One note I called all over town trying to find one of these in stock somewhere, and local medical suppliers (and even my doctor) acted like they had never seen one, like this was some sort of novel, weird idea. One supplier did tell me he had stocked one at one time, but that he felt like it was dangerous, so he didn't re order it when it sold. After using this product, I don't know what he's talking about. I'll tell you what's dangerous CRUTCHES. I struggle MUCH more with balance and the fear of falling on crutches than I do using this product. I love it.

This is a really good product. The description says it fits 5'4" but I am only 5'0" and it fits me with the knee pad in the lowest position. It is sturdy and well built. I have found that I need to release the brakes by pulling up on the bottom of the loop instead of the top so I don't snap my fingers. It is actually pretty fun to use!

Bacitracin Zinc Ointment, First Aid Antibiotic, 1oz Tube

Bacitracin Zinc Ointment, First Aid Antibiotic, 1oz TubeThis is by far my favorite antibiotic ointment I've ever used. It's very effective and does the job!! It's lighter and less greasy than others I've used and I will always keep it in the medicine cabinet!!

Bacitracin is an excellent alternative to Iodine when you have a minor wound or cut that needs cleaning and care. Bacitracin helps prevent the wound from becoming infected; and it doesn't hurt a bit the way Iodine always stung!

Wash the wound with soap and water first to clear away those germs. Then apply some Bacitracin to the wounded area using your clean fingertip. If you need to, use a Band Aid over the wound and the Bacitracin.

Bacitracin is NOT for huge, large wounds that are bleeding badly. To get proper care for those wounds go to an emergency room or your doctor fast. In addition, if the wound doesn't start to heal within a day or two consult a doctor.

Use Bacitracin before the expiration date stamped on the package. I would not use this after the expiration date.

I personally love Bacitracin first aid ointment. I can't tell you how many times during my childhood I had to have Iodine applied to minor cuts and scrapes! Wow, how that Iodine stung! Bacitracin really is a wonderful advance in medical technology; it doesn't hurt!

i used this as a nurse for... well as long as i can remember and i've been a nurse for 26 years now. it makes a wonderful seal, is usually easily removed from skin and holds other medium in place as well. Very easy to fit to any area due to the extreme ease in "cutting it", which is usually tearing it, lengthwise and crosswise. But be gentle or your tear it in a place you don't want to. also dont pull it tight or you can just "snap" it off before you measure and tape it down. it will not come off in water if careful, but don't saturated it or it will lift off skin that has hair on it. AND when you do want to remove it from skin you wet area of tape with rubbing alcohol and let it sit for a couple of minutes and it should come right off. Some people who alergic to other tape does extremely well with this, but, unfortunately; people can be allergic to it. Expecially in this case take off with extreme care.

I needed a breathable tape that will stick after showering with it on. I do not use a lot at a time, and only needed one roll. This was a great find.

Wanted to use this to protect my ankles from the blisters new shoes can cause, couldn't see if this would prevent them because the tape fell off minutes after putting it on. Probably only meant to be wrapped, not taped. Look for something with a better adhesive if you are not wrapping.

Cool Bandage

Cool BandageI really liked this product. It really helped with my swollen ankles and knees. I've had four knee surgeries on one knee, so I sometimes get bad swelling, especially when traveling.

The downsides were the smell and how wet the bandage is. My family complained about the menthol smell. The bandage was saturated. It went through my clothes and soaked the cloth seats I was sitting on. I wrapped a regular ace bandage around it, which helped.

MediFlow Waterbase Quilted Pillow Protector

MediFlow Waterbase Quilted Pillow ProtectorDue to chronic sleep issues, I recently invested in a Mediflow pillow. I purchased their high end model that has a water base (that is adjustable for your comfort) and has a down top. I have since purchased them for everyone in the family. My daughter says she has never slept as well as she does on her pillow. My husband concurs. I sleep better on this pillow, on nights where I sleep, than I have ever before and sleep more often that I used to. If you have sleep issues, consider this as your next investment. At $100+ each, they are pricey but I think they are worth every penny. Physically wellbeing, overall health and personal sanity require sleep so for me, these purchases were a no brainer and may turn out to be some of the best money I have ever spent. I chose the down model as the down will not compress and ball up (becoming lumpy) over time. I purchased the quilted top model and purchased the quilted cases for them as well. to protect them. I still use a regular pillow case over those covers to make these pillow last, since they are an investment. I think it is important to note that my husband, daughter and I each had different amounts of water for optimum comfort so we noted how much water we put in each pillow. Thus, when we empty the water out ever 6 months and refill, we will know exactly how much to put in the pillow for each person.

Sea-Band Anti-Nausea Ginger Gum

Sea-Band Anti-Nausea Ginger GumI suffer from chronic nausea and this gum is perfect for controlling it. It tastes great, too (if you like ginger).

Strong blast of ginger when you first bite down. Not bad though. I use it after I eat a meal as a digestive aid.

Several members of our family suffer from motion sickness. With a family of 7, someone always has to ride in the very back seat and gets car sick. Ginger gum to the rescue! I discovered it on a trip to Chicago when one of our teenagers got motion sickness riding the EL. Ginger gun saved the day. I take this everywhere I go.

Medique 40038 Pocket First Aid Kit, 38-Piece

Medique 40038 Pocket First Aid Kit, 38-PieceThis kit is really, really small. It is something to carry in your glove compartment, or in a purse or pocket. It looks like a back pack for a small stuffed toy, and for this reason, I think it is perfect for teaching children about first aid. In any case, it holds all the essential bandages, but don't expect it to be big. Its really very small.

This is a nice little kit to carry with you when hiking. it is small enough to attached to your belt with a carabiner and light so that you wont even realize its there. I added a actual tube of antibiotic cream and a small bottle of sunscreen. Its not meant to be a full kit, only a small portable kit. I really like it.

This kit offers basic bandages, gauze, alcohol wipes, antibiotic ointment. Included are items needed to address a minor cut or scrape. I like it because it fits nicely in small storage spots where these items are needed (glove compartment, trunk, backpack, briefcase, golf bag, purse, etc.) I agree with the others that adding some of your own items will make it more useful. The red nylon carring case is easy to find and protects small first aid supplies. Worth it for less than ten bucks.

This a cheap piece of junk made in China. After looking at the "medical items", I found that they were mostly cheap bandages and hand-wipes, yes hand wipes. I don't trust the safety of the one non-aspirin pill or the two rather suspicious looking antibiotic ointment pads. First aid kits are for emergencys and I wouldn't trust the safety or effectiveness of anything in here when I needed to use it.

Warm Tradition TRAVEL SIZE TRANSPARENT Hot Water Bottle - Made in Germany

Warm Tradition TRAVEL SIZE TRANSPARENT Hot Water Bottle - Made in GermanyIt is a nice quality plastic, no off-gassing, and a great durable screw top with a wide mouth, but the bottle itself is really quite small, and hard to be terribly effective with so little water in it.

Band-aid Brand Adhesive Bandages Activ-Flex Regular, 10 Count Box

Band-aid Brand Adhesive Bandages Activ-flex Regular 10-CountI bought two orders of these since you cannot find these band-aids in the regular stores anymore. They do have the one for blisters, but not the same as these are made thinner for scrapes. A while ago, I was mountain biking and had an encounter with a tree. Long story short, the side of my jaw scraped the tree and left a nice 1" gouge. It was not deep enough for stitches, but it was certainly boderline. After using these band-aids for minor scrapes on my arms and legs with great results, I decided to use on my face. Although it took like a month before I could go out without a band-aid on, it healed the wound with only a faint scar. What is also nice about these band-aids is that they are made to stick on for a few days before peeling / falling off. Of course, you will need to change more often if applied to an area that sweats more, but for those areas, it stays on for at least 2 days. TIP: Before applying the band-aid to the wound, warm it up in your hands to make it stickier to your skin (rubbing in between your hands works well while the paper backing is still on). Also, once applied onto the wound/skin, try not to peel off to re-position since it will not stick as well after it has picked up some of the oils from your skin.

These are a little pricey, but they stay on really well, even in areas that are constantly flexed and bent. My husband had replaced a band-aid on his hand several times while working in the yard and finally decided to use one of these instead. He worked a few more hours and didn't have to replace the band-aid again for the rest of the day. It actually stayed in place until he removed it a days or so later.

My girlfriend loves those bandages! They are of great relief with some of her nastiest high-heels. They are soft, colorless and stick nicely to the skin.

Make sure, however, that the area is not pressed against cloth, else they will fall apart and the glue will spread all over the cloth.

3m Tegaderm Transparent Dressing Box of 100 Size 1 3/4' x 1 3/4', 4.4 x 4.4cm With label; W Indicates Picture Frame Style 3M HEALTHCARE 3M 1622W ..These are wonderful/perfect: easy to use, individually packaged, waterproof, painless to remove . . . and they leave NO sticky residue on the skin! One can bathe or swim: Tegaderm (W) keeps any wound totally dry. What more can I say?

Just clean the wound and apply gauze to it, peel the backing off the Tegaderm dressing and center over the gauze. There is a small paper frame on the outer edge of the bandage that peels right off after application to the skin. I am so sold on these that I keep several sizes of Tegaderm dressings on hand for any emergency that might arise. I cannot praise this product enough. No more bandages, ever, at my house!

We have used Tegaderm before, so this was a replacement. They are easy to put on, and of equal importance, they come off without leaving a tape residue.

Of equal importance Med-Vet International, located in Mettawa. Il () which I accessed through Amazon, had the best price. They also shipped quickly, and I highly recommend them.
