Pikstik Pikstik Telescopik Reaching Arm Blue

Pik Stik Telescopic Reaching Arm - BlueI'm in a wheelchair and very short so when I saw this reacher I figured I'd give it a shot. I've owned several Pik Stiks over the years and they were always pretty good. Well not this one... The grip strength of this reacher is so bad you can't even pick up a t-shirt off the floor. Nearly anything you try and grab will slip through the gripper.

The telescoping feature would be great is you could pic something up with it securely, but since you can't even pick up a sheet of paper from the floor it's just another useless "aid" that ends up in the back of a closet.

I recently did major damage to my right leg in a skiing accident and will be unable to walk for the next two months. In trying to survive this I was searching for tools to take me through this period. There are so many to choose from it hardly seems you can only own just one but I needed a tool exactly like this one. I would not argue with any of the other reviews, as I can see the unit is light weight, which is great, so it's likely to need to be treated with kid gloves. And I have only had mine for a day but it's already improved my life greatly.

Because it's telescopic I can do more stuff with it. But I don't just use it to pick things up but also to help to rearrange things around me and move them into better position. A lot of the time I find something sliding the wrong way, just out of reach and this unit is just great for getting things back in order. It's true it probably can't pick up much weight but I was surprised to have no problem picking up pennies from the floor with it. It's so versatile and just to be able to use it to lasso one of my crutches makes it well worth the money to me. Having the 2'-4' reach gives you much more space to control and as a result I do not need help most of the time with anything inside my space.

I believe this tool, for it's low price and light weight is an excellent tool and should be considered for those of us that are spending most of our time in bed and are very independent.

Parts started falling off after a week. I have another Pikstik product that is pretty good, but this one is poorly designed.

I'm wheelchair bound from MS. Over the years, I've probably purchased every kind of grabber/reacher that exists. This is my second Pik Stik brand reacher. The first one has sat unused since a few days after buying it. Why? Because it requires too much hand strength to grip the thing. I hoped that this model of Pik Stik would be easier to squeeze, but alas, it was not. It's also heavier to wield than the fixed length models, probably because they neeedd to beef up the shaft to make it extendable. So harder to lift *and* harder to grip. Not a great combination, especially for elderly or neurologically impaired users.

Having said that, this Pik Stik has two features I really like. First, the adjustable length is huge. Seems like I always have a stick in my hand which is the wrong length. Too short is obvious, but too long may not be so obvious. Try picking up an object from a sitting position that is at your feet with a 5 or 6 foot long stick and the geometry becomes apparent. Your hands might be 5 feet apart when you extend your arms, but its nigh unto impossible to use a stick that long to transfer control of an object from one hand to the other. You end up transferring the out-of-reach item (usually on the floor) to a table or bed that is the right height for you to reach without a reacher The adjustable length of this stick solves the 'wrong length' problem readily, if not the intermediate transfer zone probem.

Second, the articulating tips of the Pik Stick make it the best tool for picking up a sheet of paper off the hardwood floor (one of the most common reaching problems I have). But the grip strength needed still trumps the easy paper handling capabilities, at least for me.

If someone would produce a light weight, easy to grip, adjustable length and adjustable clamp angle reacher/grabber stick, they would take over the market.

I ordered this grabber because 3 years ago I needed a grabber at work to get my print outs (broke my kneecap and couldn't get to the printer). I was extremely pleased with it, I think it was the 48" grabber. My mother now needs a grabber for around the house. We have tried others but they just don't hold up. So I thought why not go back to the brand I like. I choose this one for her because she is 74 and in a wheel chair and needed a grabber she can handle. I liked that she will be able to adjust the length to fit her needs. I did open the box try it around my house. Just wanted to make sure that it was as good as mine. I picked straight pin up off the carpet, my cell phone, the tv remote, a glass, and a bottle of perfume. Had no problem with any of those objects. For proper use, you need to make sure that the adjustment screw or ring is tightened, if not the claw will not close completely and arm can slide out on you.
