Adventure Medical Kits Pocket Survival Pac

Adventure Medical Kits Pocket Survival PacDoug Ritter and his foundation, Equipped to Survive, has come up with a very economic method to equip yourself and your family with an emergency kit. It is small enough to carry unnoticed in a pocket, yet fully functional.

Although you can control the amount of certain items if you put together your own kit (something of a rite of passage among the survivalists/emergency preparedness folk), I spent twice as much putting together a comparable kit. The military issue sparklite and tinder-quick, Fox-40 whistle, and Rescue Flash signal mirror alone could cover the cost of the kit and they are all top notch gear. This pack is extremely high quality through and through, from choice of equipment to packing and instructions. I recommend looking at the ETS website at the slideshow of how such a kit is put together and what Doug Ritter himself recommends that you add to the kit (the pouch can hold a few more small items such as water purification tabs).

The Pocket Survival Pack is an amazing value. I've purchased all of the items separately, and just the shipping or driving to pick up 3 or 4 of the items probably covers half the cost! If you are lucky enough to get everything at one store, you'd be hard pressed to get the entire kit as cheap as this. I know people who have purchased this kit to take the parts for their own self-built survival kits! That's how economical it is. Plus, if you buy this PSP, a portion of the proceeds goes to the ETS non-profit group which gives free survival consulting to deployed troops and is actively involved in improving survival equipment and standards. In fact, Doug Ritter is the only consumer advocate working with the governing body on personal locator beacons used in marine, aviation, and remote travel.

The kit itself comes in a waterproof container. I found it to be a bit tight when closing back up, but there is actually some room for more items. All components are of the highest quality. It's lightweight and I never notice it in a pocket. With the recommended ETS or similar keychain LED flashlight and a good pocket folding knife, you have a complete survival kit that rivals ones costing $100+. These are cheap enough to get one for each car and any camping/hiking/marine/aviation gear you might have. I highly recommend this PSP. I'm not affiliated with ETS, but I've come to appreciate their no-nonsense advice and forums. And if this was a bad kit, I'd still say so. I give it 5 stars, great value for the price and it really could save your life.

Doug Ritter knows what he talks about. As a Marine and avid outdoorsman, this is a great, basic kit that should be carried at all times -and in your vehicle when you are driving. Included are basic items that will help keep you alive and get found. Yes, there are better kits out there, but for the price, conveinence and novice -this is it.

I am giving this kit ***** and you guys know that I am a tough grader for survival kits. But this one is great. First of all, it has a Heatsheet blanket instead of a cheapie.

It also has a LOUD whistle and a small but serious signal mirror for signaling. Assuimg you keep a little LED flashlight on your keyring, zipperpull, etc, then you're set for signaling.

For firemaking it has a small pack of waterproof matches and some Tinderquick, which I grade highly. I'd add a flint firestarter, but still, it's pretty good.

The kit also has a mini-roll of duct-tape for zillions of uses, even first aid. There's also a small button compass, not all that useful, but it doesn't take up any weight or space.

Finally it has a mini fishing kit, with 4 large safety pins included. Those can be very handy for lots of things. In reality, a fishing kit isn't going to be a huge help in most cases, but it can be relaxing to dip a line, so why not? An idea here might be to remove one of the safety pins and put a Exacto blade in there instead. Of course, if you do so, it will not pass TSA.

They assume (and I hope) that you are carrying a decent knife, and some sort of 1st aid kit. If you aren't, there is room in the bag to add a few Band-aids and a one use packet of Neosporin.

What I like most is the bag. Not only is it watertight and resealable, but it fits perfectly and comfortably in a deep pocket, and thus you will actually take this kit with you. No kit, no matter how completeis any use if you don't have it there where the sitrep occurs.

I also think that this kit may be acceptable to the TSA (rules and interpretations vary), so it would make a good travel kit, too.

This product is compact (wallet-sized) and contains all essential basics for an emergency. The little instruction leaflet is very helpful, too. In light of many recent disasters (both natural and man-made) looming over our nation, I think everyone should get ready for it in one way or another. I would recommend this to anyone without reservation. =)

Tourniquet Latex-Free (Pack of 10) Disposable

Tourniquet Latex-Free DisposableThese tourniquets are inexcusably poorly made. The first tourniquet I tried to wrap around a test dummy's arm immediately snapped in half. You can make them work if you are very careful with them, but they won't create enough tension, and will snap within 3 or 4 uses. The best word to describe these tourniquets is "fragile". Buy something else, these may seem like a deal, but they are a complete rip off.

Just as pictured. The one's I got were blue & rolled up tight. I tried putting one on. Seems to be good. Whether the rubber begins to degrade sooner than later remains to be seen.

Perfect for what they are made to do. Keep It Simple Stupid. I can carry 10 of these in my pack/med kit and they are nearly weightless. Now how many times are you going to need 10 of them when you go out? That would be a real bad day. Very happy with this purchase.

We all have bandaids, dressings, tape and ointment; BUT what happens when you or a loved one cuts themselves badly and bleeding, and forbid an artery in the wrist..........only a tight tourniquet will apply enough pressure to save your life. Now a leg would require any belt, pulled very tight, and 911 is the only way to go, but for those prescious few seconds, these are an absolute neccessity for small areas............trust me!!!! And 10 for this price is just too wonderful! I carry two in my purse at all times for my family.

Africa's Best Kids Organics Hair Lotion, Shea Butter Detangling Moisturizing

Africa's Best Kids Organics Hair Lotion, Shea Butter Detangling MoisturizingWhen I first went natural, I spent a small fortune trying to find products that would do a myriad of different things for my dry, thirsty, unruly 3C hair(i.e. give my curls length, no frizz, shine, nice scent, not sticky, provide hold without stiffness, etc.). Well Africa's Best Kid's Organics Extra Virgin Olive Oil Plus Shea Butter Detangling Moisturizing Hair Lotion does it all AND is cheap to boot. Yes, it does a nice job of detangling on just washed & conditioned hair but there's another big plus. It's also perfect for both wet and dry braid outs. It keeps curls tamed but still gives my hair some freedom. It provides enough hold to keep my style in check without frizz and smells SO good. This lotion also "plays nice" with my other styling products (Vanilla Silk shine serum and Eco Styler Olive Oil Gel) so that when I need more hold and extra shine it doesn't make a big mess. I also don't need to use it every day to get a nice style. When I braid my hair for the night at the end of Day 2, I lightly spritz a little water mixed with my favorite hair oil, put a tiny bit of the lotion on my ends, and my curls stretch out more and more as the days go by (3 days max without a wash or I'll lose my mind!). I just hope this stuff stays on the market forever. Seems like the minute I find a product I love, some big wig decides to fix what ain't broke and I'm back to square one. So while it's here give it a try. At this price, you've got nothing to lose.

I purchased this product based on the reviews I read on Amazon, and I was not disappointed! This is easily the best detangling product I have ever used. I have African American hair, and it was so dry and tangled that I was considering just allowing it to form dreadlocks.

This product seems to melt tangles and absorbs easily into hair. My hair was soft and manageable with a minimum of elbow grease! Here are a few things to know:

This is a heavier product, best suited for African American hair textures.

No need to wet hair, this product will add moisture.

I'm not sure what other reviewers are talking about... it just smells okay.

The ingredients may not be perfect, but this is a great inexpensive solution!

I concur with the other reviewers as to how great that "Africa's Best Organics Detangle Lotion" (with extra virgin olive oil plus shea butter) is for both naturally curly and relaxed hair. What I like most about this product is that it moisturizes the hair while leaving the hair naturally soft. I am a woman with naturally curly hair that changes textures depending on the weather (here in the D.C. area it can get both humid and rainy in the same day during the summer), and this product keeps my hair moisturized even when the rain gets to it. This product can be safely used by both children and adults from various racial backgrounds. I was fortunate to have discovered this product last summer, and my husband has remarked that it smells good in my hair, and has helped soften it. "Africa's Best Organics Detangle Lotion" is best to get if you are looking for a hair lotion that provides an adequate amount of moisture while simultaneously containing a pleasant scent.

I am growing out my relaxer and read about this product on a natural hair site. I was a little skeptical at first but after several uses I am hooked. It really moisturizes my hair which is usually pretty dry and I love that it does not leave it feeling greasy. I am not sure how well it works as a detangler because I have not tried it on wet hair but it leaves my hair very soft when used as a daily moisturizer. My husband even commented that my hair smells like berries! I will definitely order this again.

Bacitracin Zinc Ointment, USP - 4 Oz Tube - Fougera - Tube

Bacitracin Zinc Ointment, USP - 4 Oz Tube - Fougera - TubeI occasionally get very large and infected pimples that last for days and nothing seems to help. Well I decided to try some Bacitracin on one that was starting to do the same as so many in the past. I put it on as soon as I got home from work, then re-applied again before bed. When I woke up the next morning, it was barely visible and the swelling was gone. It did it's job.

Again, this was not typical acne, being in my mid 40's, pretty much any single pimple I get turns into a big bright red infected mess for days. Glad I tried it for this reason.

I ran out of the small tube of this for our baby and didn't want to brave the winter weather to go to the drugstore for another tube. Decided to take a look on amazon to see if they carried it and lo and behold they do. The product came in a timely manner and was a great price. I got a big tube that should last a good long time. It is a good product to have around the house for rowdy kids, clumsy husband, and careless wives.

This is the best ointment I've ever used. It's excellent for scars, burns, even as a face moiturizer. This ointment was used in the hospital on my husband's face when he received carpet burns after falling on the floor from a mild stroke. His face was burned and scarred badly. However, the nurses applied this ointment nightly and the scars disappeard. I also used it on an old scar which was on my knee and it completely disappeared after a few applications. Therefore, I would highly recommend this product to everyone.

When my husband, a diabetic, had his first foot-care appointment at our clinic, it was discovered he had a very infected toenail bed (he had stubbed it weeks before). The nurse who cleaned it gave us Bacitracin packets to use at home when i dressed the toe each day -I figured if our Health Care Team was using the product, it would be good to have it one have. I have since used it on minor scrapes.

Proflex 1650 Economy Elastic Back Support, XL

Proflex 1650 Economy Elastic Back Support, XLI was very impressed with the quality of workmanship of the Proflex 1650 Economy Elastic Back Support. I would highly recommend this product. One reviewer commented that the suspenders are hard to adjust, but I found out that once you have it adjusted it works nicely you can open the belt while sitting and Velcro it back up when your working and it will not fall off your body. The only thing I had a hard time with is there was no sizing chart on the Amazon webpage so here it is... Hope it helps!

Proflex 1650 Economy Elastic Back Support Size Chart

SIZE: FITS WAISTS

X-Small: Up to 25½ (64 cm)

Small: 25-30½ (64-76cm)

Medium: 30-34½ (76-86cm)

Large: 34-38½ (86-97cm)

X-Large: 38-42½ (97-107cm)

2Xlarge: 42-46½ (107-117cm)

3Xlarge: 46-52½ (117-132cm)

4Xlarge: 52-58½ (132-147cm)

I have a 38" waist so your one size fits all average back support just barely fits, always on the verge of popping right off. From my experience XL is the same as getting a one-size. No difference whatsoever. So I thought a 2XL should do the trick. Turns out its WAY TOO BIG! At least from this company. Maybe would start at about 44" on up.

Buy Proflex 1650 Economy Elastic Back Support, XL Now

I have a bad back and this helps prevent back soreness and strain. It can be worn over or under clothing and fits a 32" (and probably a 34") waist or smaller. It is a big help with my posture when using a compute for long periods which is a problem for me.

It provides a light support for the back but isn't in the same league as the leather or heavy support belts for construction or weight lifting (or cost or discomfort either).

Can be a little fussy to adjust and I find the suspenders to be a determent which is why it gets a 4 (even if you remove the suspenders it is fussy to adjust).

As a server, I carry heavy trays around for 8 hours a day. I also have to bus tables that come in all heights. Bending over and standing back up with heavy trays and maneuvering around the dining room with them really used to put a strain on my back, so I bought one of these.

I haven't had a problem since and know that when I get older, I will thank myself for taking care of my back now.

Want Proflex 1650 Economy Elastic Back Support, XL Discount?

None of the companies who make these back supports seem to have ever tried their products on real people to get the sizing right. I don't see any size guidelines in the listing and the size chart offered in another review is pretty far off, from my experience. I have a waist size that varies from 42 to 46 depending on how active I am. Because the stretchy side wings are too long on the XL, it's really too big to give me strong back support. I just ordered the same thing in a size Large, which I expect to be pretty tight when my waist is at 44 inches -but it needs to be tight to provide good back support. This brand is very well made but it's useless if it doesn't fit right. I could probably have used the XL if they had simply made the side panel adjusters a bit shorter. They were definitely too long to give any meaningful adjustability -so you have to be within a few inches of the size it's made for or you will need a different size! As I said, this back support is very well-made but, size-wise, this company has not planned or designed very thoughtfully.

Ok, so when I burned my wrist and needed to gauze it up, I had this tape in the first aid kit I brought to school. It worked very well. Elite First Aid Tactical Trauma Kit #3 (W/ACU Bag)

Elite First Aid Tactical Trauma Kit #3Great backpack for the price if your looking for a first aid kit to travel with this is a good stater lit

Although the pack it self is great. Sturdy, quality material, and looks and smells new, it did not have everything in it that it was supposed to. The description on Amazon, as explained to me by the seller OffGridWarehouse, was incorrect. It does not contain 2 Blood Stopper kits or what we all would think would be quick clot. It is actually a blood stopper bandage kit. My pack was missing both of these blood stopper bandage kits completely. Not having much luck getting the missing items sent to me free of charge. Looks like I may just have to send it back and re order it... And hope it has everything in it it's supposed to this time. Over all customer service is a joke. Should have just found out how to order the product directly form Elite company.

So I am a mild prepper. What I mean by that is I want to be able to take care of my family if we had such a thing as an earthquake. This bag was a great addition to our preps. Dynarex Surgical Paper Tape Surgical 1/2 Inch x10yd 24I bought this product because it was listed as hypoallergenic and will result in minimal irritation to the skin. This was not the case for me. Though it seems I am allergic to almost everything and most tapes, adhesives, and other surgical things will break my skin out, I thought this might be different. I am not trying to say this is a bad product, but I can say that it did not work for me. Overall the tape was very adhesive and worked as described.

perfect! I been using this size for some time now. Makes a box of tape last twice as long, and it dont tear up the skin as much when you take it off. As long as I can get this tape, its all I want to use now.

Tactical Development Group Trauma Kit by Rescue Essentials - Black

Tactical Development Group Trauma Kit by Rescue Essentials - BlackThe Tactical Development Group Trauma Kit by Rescue Essentials is an impressive and practical kit to handle major trauma. The contents of this kit are high quality and full of utility. This kit will effectively treat the following:

Severe hemorrhage: Utilizing Celox, CAT or SWAT-T tourniquet, trauma dressings, and compressed rolled gauze

Open chest wounds: Utilizing the Hyfin chest seal or the Bolin chest seal

Compromised airway: Utilizing the nasopharyngeal airway

The contents of this kit include the following:

1 Maxpedition Fight Pouch

1 Combat Application Tourniquet (C-A-T)

1 SWAT-T Tourniquet

1 Celox 35gm Packet

1 Celox Trauma Gauze

1 Bolin Chest Seal

1 HyFin Chest Seal

1 Nasopharyngeal Airway (28 fr) w/lube

1 NAR Emergency Trauma Dressing, 6"

1 NAR Emergency Trauma Dressing, 12" (Abdominal/Stump Dressing)

2 NAR S-rolled Compressed Gauze

1 7½" EMT Shears

1 12 Hour Light Stick

This kit is built upon the Maxpedition FIGHT pouch platform which securely holds all of the contents while being readily accessible with the tear away design. Maxpedition makes very high quality gear that is rugged, durable, and will stand up to abuse. One of the aspects that I really like with this trauma kit it that it has built in redundancy. There are two tourniquets, two chest seals, and multiple methods for handling severe bleeding. This is an excellent kit to treat an individual with multiple systemic trauma or multiple individuals. All of the contents are top quality except for the SWAT-T tourniquet which in my opinion is not as effective as the Combat Application Tourniquet. Some minor adjustments that I would make to this kit would be to include 2-3 pairs of Nitrile gloves, add 4 packets of Water Jel Burn Jel, Pain Relief 25 ea, and add a small LED flashlight such as the Streamlight 66318 MicroStream C4 LED Pen Flashlight.

I highly recommend The Tactical Development Group Trauma Kit as it is an effective trauma kit. Most kits have components that are cheap quality but not this kit. In fact, this is one of the best "pre-packaged" kits that I have seen on the market.

This is not a cheap kit filled with junk. This has almost everything you need to save lives from gunshot wounds. Hands down the best. You get what you pay for. The maxpedition bag is sweet, the products inside are top notch. I did add a few things, but overall extremely happy I got everything I needed in one place for when I head to the range.

Tender Ben's 30% Deet 12-count Travel Wipes

Tender Ben's 30% Deet 12-count Travel WipesBackground: I got devoured by mosquitoes on a trip to Mexico in 2009, and the assault on my system was enough to land me in hospital 3 times in a single week. (During the first two visits to different hospitals, my condition was misdiagnosed and I was given the wrong treatments; the third hospital figured out that I had developed an allergy to the mosquitoes). It seems that because I was bitten so many times (over 50 bites), my body went into some sort of shock and ultra-defence mode. As a result, I now have a very heightened sensitivity to all bug bites.

With this in mind, I intended to use as many precautions as possible for my recent trip to Hawaii. Here's how I protected myself (I'll discuss Ben's wipes in a moment):

STEP 1:

Started taking Vitamin B Complex two weeks before departure. I chose one that had huge %RDA of each type of Vitamin B (I think B12 is the most vital), and always took it in the morning because it can cause really awful nightmares if you take it close to bedtime.

STEP 2:

I sprayed all my holiday clothes with Sawyer's Permethrin Clothing Spray, which I will review separately. (Short answer: it seems to have worked very well.) http://www.amazon.com/Sawyer-SP657-Permethrin-Clothing-Repellent/dp/B001ANQVYU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1303674748&sr=8-1

STEP 3:

Covered all exposed areas with Ben's deet wipes every day. More specifics on this in a moment.

STEP 4:

Always had my "Zap It!" clicker tied to my handbag. I can't find these listed on Amazon, but I bought a pack of 4 online for about $30, and they each have about 10,000 clicks. This was one of my great investments! I definitely recommend it. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Zap-It-Mosquito-Bite-Relief/dp/B0012GMT0A/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1303674948&sr=8-2

STEP 5:

Kept some antihistamine tablets handy just in case I felt overwhelmed by itching, but luckily I didn't have to take any.

STEP 6:

I also kept some anti-itch creams at the ready, but the "Zap it!" made them largely unnecessary. (Combined with the fact that the other steps had minimised my bites in the first place)

....So, now that you know my 6-phase plan of assault, back to Ben's 30% Deet Wipes.

As bug repellent goes, these are very good. My travel companion got eaten alive, because he wasn't really protecting himself (and hadn't taken part in my patented Six Steps to Mozzie Freedom!). After one particularly bug-infested hike, I had 6 bites and he had about 25. So in terms of a side-by-side experiment, the wipes in conjunction with my other steps performed very well.

PROS:

I am asthmatic and these didn't aggravate my lungs at all. The odour is pretty low compared to "Off" spray or any others I've tried.

Being wipes, they're super easy to apply.

Having individual packs is SO convenient for hiking.

I think 30% Deet was just right for most of our hikes, but we were beseiged in some rainforesty areas, so I got a handful of bites.

Pretty fair price for a pack with three boxes in it. I have a few left over, even though we were in Hawaii for 2.5 weeks.

CONS:

No major cons, but I was always careful to wash my hands after applying because I had read that Deet tends to melt plastic. It did remove my toenail polish whenever I made accidental contact with it.

It's a little greasy, but that didn't bother me.

The main thing that annoyed me was that once in a while, I'd open a sachet and the wipe would be BONE DRY inside. There wasn't even the slightest residue; it was like it had never been treated with Deet. This was a bummer because I was worried about running out of wipes (I ended up over-rationing them, which resulted in a few bites).

The occasional "blank" wipe is why I'm knocking off a star. Otherwise these are a very decent product and I'd recommend them for any mosquito situation, including for those of us with allergies.

Happy Travels!

I bought this three-pack for our safari in Kenya because of the high (30%) DEET content. The wipes were easy to open and apply, and it was great to be able to just throw a few packets into my pocket before heading out on a dusk game drive. In 14 days, I did not get a SINGLE mosquito bite (to be fair, I did not see many mosquitos at all throughout the trip, and we did stay in nice lodges with mosquito netting around the beds). I am a mosquito magnet and allergic to boot (when something bites me, the bite swells up hugely and itches like crazy), so the fact that I did not get bitten does say quite a bit about these wipes. Nobody wants to rub DEET on their skin, of course, but if I have to again, I will go with these.

My husband purchased these last year and we used them all summer. I have a hard time going outside after 5pm because I get bitten so badly...the bugs seem to be drawn to me more than my husband! So I tried these wipes and went for a walk after 5pm...I saw bugs and gnats everywhere but they did not bother me! I didn't get one bite that evening. I've been using it ever since. Just put some on my daughter for a field trip where she had to go hiking and they warned of ticks. She came home without a single bite or tick. And the bugs really like her too. Thanks for a great product!

These wipes are the best thing I have found for applying repellent to my toddler. They are exactly 30% DEET (the max recommended by the AAP for kids), and there's no accidentally missing spots with the spray, or worse, accidentally spraying him in the face as he squirms to get away. Best of all, my child is normally a mosquito magnet, and he was able to go outside at dusk for an hour without a single bite. A first!

PURE LLC 24 Disinfectant SprayThis product not only kill MRSA & Staph, but continues to kill it for a 24hr period. On top of that it is totally safe for use around children and pets.

Very expensive, so I use sparingly. However it seems to kill any algae, fungus, bacteria colonies that I can see i.e. the colors change from black, yellow, etc. to colorless with one or two applications. After a couple of years of using the product, I still find it to be very effective.

I like that the product is confirmed green. I assume it is working. It does leave a sticky residue that is also visible if you leave it on for too long and especially if you don't wipe it off (the instructions say you can leave on). I did make the mistake of using it on my kitchen pergo floor (the instructions states you can use it on flooring). I left it on to dry, the floor got sticky and I've repeatedly washed the floor with my other green products and still can't get it completely off. The rep said it is because it has citris in the ingredients which makes sense. I recommend if using it on flooring, perhaps only in a tiled bathroom and again, don't leave it on to dry.

This is a known effective disinfectant for stomach virus. The instructions say that you can leave this on and it will dry. When it dries, it leaves a sticky film. We have to wipe after spraying; I'm not sure that's as effective.
