Adventure Medical Pocket Survival Pak Plus

Adventure Medical Kits Pocket Survival Pak PlusI just recieved this kit today 3/23/11 for my get home bag, long story. I digress I took it apart and I was quite impressed with the items found iniside. The knife is okay and the pencil a little on the skimpy side, but both are easily replaceable, otherwise the case and the other material that come with it, are quite surprisingly good and it has a few pieces of paper for reorder. I think this kit is worth the money though a bit expensive, still worth it.

This kit and a space blanket should be added to your pack or pocket on any hike as a minimum. This is lightweight and it takes up very little space. I like the pocket concept. It's a survival kit that's more likely to be with you when you need it. These are quality items even if they are small.

Buy Adventure Medical Pocket Survival Pak Plus Now

I've had this PSK for some time now, never used it, and hope I never have to. For the money you can't go wrong. These are all top quality components in a pocket sized, waterproof package. To understand the quality and thought that went into this kit, visit Doug Ritters website equipped.com. He explains every single item and why it's included. Some items, like the whistle and knife were specially designed just for this kit and are now sold separately. I'm not an outdoorsman, hunter, or hiker, just someone who likes to be prepared for the unexpected. With this in your pocket or bag you have a backup fixed blade knife, water container and purification, signal mirror, compass, whistle and a bunch of other stuff to help you survive. With all the earthquakes, storms, floods, and people just getting stranded, this is one of those things you would rather have on you and not need it, than need it and not have it. How much is your life worth?

The Plus version of Doug Ritter's excellent Pocket Survival Pak adds some highly useful items.

Not a huge fan of the tiny flashlight or the pencil in the kit if you get one of these and keep the pencil, consider wrapping it past the tip with a bit of electric tape this will keep it from dusting graphite inside your kit from normal pocket jostling... and it will give you a bit of electric tape. Also planning on replacing the little flashlight with a Photon keyring light or a unit that clips to the bill of a cap.

This is a great starting point for assembling your own larger user-specific kit. Add a "space blanket" or two, find a convenient place to carry some paracord and a few trash bags and you should be in pretty good shape for weathering an unexpected over-nighter.

Most of the stuff is good to have as a (backup) say in car...This shouldn't be considered core survival gear...Flash light is a total piece of junk...I also think it sould be about $10 less expensive.

2.5X Lighted Full Page Magnifier with Flexible Neck Floor Stand

2.5X Lighted Full Page Magnifier with Flexible Neck Floor StandThis magnifier with light is really a bad, bad product. Here are the things I found wrong with it: 1. It is REALLY HARD to put together, and I am good at assembling things 2. The pole, which runs from the light to the base, IS NOT CONNECTED to the base. This means that every time you want to move the magnifier, you have to get down on the floor and pick it up by the heavy base. 3. And most important, the "magnifier" is actually only a thin plastic sheet (you can buy these anywhere magnifiers are sold for about $5.00. It did NOTHING in terms of magnifying. Any old hand held magnifier would do better.

I bought this for my mother. I can't tell you how inappropriate it was for her...or anyone, really. I couldn't quite imagine her, at 90 years old, getting on her hands and knees to move it. Nor could she see anything with this!

Further, I had to pay to have it shipped to me and $10.00 to return it to the company.

It is not a good product. It terribly warps the image of whatever you try to magnify, has sharp glare and just impossible to use. I also had to pay for shippping both ways.

Bemis Suction Canister 800cc

Bemis Suction Canister 800ccPrice is good but doesn't work well. I used this canister as replacement canisyer for a Drive suction machine. Construction is not the same as the original canister. Right off, the suction power seemed reduced. I use the suction machine once a day, and clean and dry the canister each time after use. The canister failed after less than one month of use simply would not hold any suction at all. It came with no instructions so really don't know how to troubleshoot. In contrast, the orognal canister lasted about four months, and was still working when i decided to replace it with a fresh one. Going to try another brand.

i bought this canister to have an extra one on hand for my home suction machine. It fit my machine perfectly. No complaints.

I have a Schuco 130 pump. I purchased it used in order to use it for doing splash racking and degassing of wine we make. Besides not wanting to have a used canister, the one it came with was broken. I replaced it with this suction canister. For my uses, pretty much no wine ever touches this canister as its purpose to take any overflow mistake and prevent wine from entering the pump itself.

I've used this canister a number of times. No leaks and hold the full vacuum pressure the pump is able to provide. Tubing fits tightly on the canister and I have no complaints cheapest of its kind and does what I need it to do.

Loved the price of the Bemis Suction Canister. The first canister malfunctioned but the company replace it promptly at no charge, no questions asked and really came through for us. Our son was born at 23 weeks and requires an electric aspirator to this day to clear out any blockage from his nasal passages/airways. I would recommend this company and product. The customer service was excellent!

Prestige Medical Long Nurse Compression Socks, Black

Prestige Medical Long Nurse Compression Socks, BlackI would definitely recommend these socks! I work 12 hour shifts as a nurse and find these socks to be more than helpful. The only downfall some people may find is that they're quite long. I'm 5'8" and wear a 9 1/2 shoe. They come up to my knees. They're perfect for me, but may be a little long for shorter people.

Good quality. Nice fit around the calves. They are wayyyy too long in the feet. I wear a 7.5-8 and the heel is up past my Achilles tendon. Totally defeats my purpose of wearing them to decrease ankle swelling. Such a bummer esp since I don't have a small foot.

Buy Prestige Medical Long Nurse Compression Socks, Black Now

Ordered 2 pair of these, one black, and one white. I thought for the price they would probably be light weight as far as compression...well, I am pleasantly surprised, as they are more like medium to heavy weight...husband had significant swelling of his left foot and ankle area due to having to wear an air cast on his leg. After wearing this sock for one day the swelling was 80% gone, and completely gone the next day! He says he thinks the white ones are even "tighter" than the black ones, though they both say one size fits all...so, if you are looking for a medium to heavy weight compression, these are great! Free shipping is added bonus!

I am a nurse and work long hours. I have been buying compression socks for years and have tried almost every brand. This time, I thought I'd search on Amazon and see what they have. These are my favorite socks for the price. They are comparable to other compression socks sold at nursing stores. What I like the most is there is no tight rim at the top of the sock that cuts off my circulation like some of the socks do. I have bought this item several times because I love them so much.

Elta MD Elta Tar

Elta MD Elta Tar 3.8 oz.In one area I have seen about a 50% reduction in symptoms and another about 30% reduction. It hasn't made them disappear completely but I am pleasantly surprised. It seems as effective as my prescription Taclonex, if not more so, on areas with muscle underneath. Compared to MG217, it seems to be better MG217 seems a little harsher and leaves the patches a bit more red compared to the elta.

Update 8/8.

I have had 99% clearing in one area and 60% in the other. this stuff works! Give it time! Kind of a miracle.

I have used this product for years now for my seborrheic dermatitis (dry scalp condition). This particular product ordered via Amazon, was fresh and shipped pretty quickly. As for the overall product, it really soothes and relieves my scalp issues. Of course, there's no cure for psoriasis, eczema, and seborrheic dermatitis because they are driven by allergies; that is, until you resolve the allergic reactions and/or conditions, you'll always suffer from these types of skin issues. However, it does well with temporarily aiding the issue. Also, it's the best product on the market, besides a corticosteroid, that actually give results without any side effects. I recommend this to anyone who suffers from these types of skin conditions, in addition to a mere case of really dry skin....It helps!

Terrasil Skin Repair Max Antiseptic Ointment

Terrasil Skin Repair Max Antiseptic OintmentI LOVE this product. I use the MAX strength repair cream mostly. I constantly get huge, painful infections on my chin & neck area. (facial cellulitis) After many trips to the DR. for antibiotics they still kept reoccurring in different areas each time. After lots of online research I discovered this product. It has worked better than antibiotics and keeps the infections to a minimum now instead of lasting a few weeks with severe pain and scarring, not to mention how huge and disgusting the infections became. I have also ordered the acne cream and wound repair cream. My daughter says the acne cream works great for her (not for my problems though) The wound cream works great too as most of the ingredients are the same. A little less greasy that the MAX repair cream so I use that in between infections to help with the scaring & to avoid more infections as it has natural antibacterial ingredients. (Bentonite). A little goes a long way so way less costly than Dr. copays and prescriptions. I could go on & on & on with positive reviews.

I had a serious skin condition and faithfully rub this amazing cream on my leg every day. I'm seeing a change.

EverReady Sterile Gauze Pads, 2x2, 12 Ply, 100/BX, White

EverReady Sterile Gauze Pads, 2x2, 12 Ply, 100/BX, WhiteThese gauze pads are extremely thin. I took a chance on them, even though some other reviews said they were bad, because they said '12 Ply'. I had been buying 12 Ply gauze pads at local stores such as Walmart and a grocery store....I was buying the least expensive ones, not the pricier name brand gauze pads. I figured these EverReady pads would be similar. WRONG. Even using two of these pads is awful, they wad up when wet so I can't use them with saline to wash my wound. And forget about using them to spread ointment, that doesn't work either. The best way for me to describe the thin quality is to have you think about a roll of gauze, cutting a strip from that and folding it in half. That's how flimsy and open-weave these so called 'pads' are.

Cheesecloth type (or maybe worse than the cheapest type of cheesecloth) quality.

It is not absorbent and instead very irritating to your cut with its loose thread.

Grabber Outdoors The Original Space Brand Emergency Survival Blanket, Silver (Pack of 3)

Grabber Outdoors The Original Space Brand Emergency Survival Blanket, SilverI spent three-nights bushwalking, and an Emergency Blanket turned out to be critical for each & every night. I admittedly went in unprepared with a zip-up fleece blanket -like a sleeping bag but not a sleeping bag -and a cotton liner. The first day & night were dry, but at night I noted that my body heat was being lost to the world too quickly. My tent, double-layer air mattress, fleece blanket, & liner were not enough. I put on a dry heavy Columbia Omni-Wick shirt -not enough. I put on dry ski socks -not enough. Then I had to take the Emergency Blanket step, and I was then confident I would be OK. The next two days & nights were extremely wet & notably cold as I fast-tracked to get out of the park. And I luckily I could just-manage to keep my sleeping gear dry thanks to a compression dry sack (everything else was soaked), and adding on the Emergency Blanket was a no-brainer each following night. For a few bucks and the confidence that you'll wake up in the morning ... buy it. (And buy a double-layer air mattress too depending upon what you're doing ... losing heat to the ground was big time non-issue for me.)

I loved this blanket. It's very light weight and keeps you very warm. I bought a few for myself and I am glad I did. They will last me a long time.

Prevacid 24HR Capsules

Prevacid 24HR Caps 42-Countprevacid does work well if you take the correct dosage. I took prevacid by prescription 30mgs and it work wonders on my reflux. Then I stopped taking it and it came back. Doctor put me on acipex, then my health insurance starting charging a 100 dolloar co pay. I started to take prevacid otc, but only took on pill 15mgs. the refux came back in a few days. I looked at the bottle and realized it was half of prescription strength and starting taking two pills. reflux improved after days and no problems since. its not unusual a drug that goes otc to have a lower dosage than when it was available by sript. so if it is not working for you, take two pills at once and you will be taking prescription strength dosage.

Our current prescription copay for the solutab form of Prevacid is $90 per month and insurance pays the rest. Our daughter needs to take Prevacid for acid control as she has GERD. She is 3 years of age now and takes the contents of one capsule twice daily with applesauce or pudding as a base. We save at least $30 per month by purchasing OTC Prevacid without insurance and avoiding the high cost of the solutabs. Our daughter's G.I. specialist gave the approval to switch to this medication form. I hope this information is helpful to other sufferers of GERD or caregivers of children/elderly with this condition.

Buy Prevacid 24HR Capsules Now

As a long time acid reflux sufferer and a long time consumer of every acid reducing product under the sun, I can say that PrevAcid is the best of the best "for my particular problem". I stress the last part of that statement because with any medication or ANY product for that matter, individual results will vary... and no I'm not a paid actor...haha.

A few years ago, I was forced by my insurance carrier to switch from the prescription version of PrevAcid to their preferred brand which was Nexium. I had excellent results "initially" from Nexium, but over time my bowel movements started becoming very very irregular, to the point of actually ending up in the ER. Since Nexium was the only medication I was taking, it was fairly evident what was causing the problem. I decided it was time to make a switch and I started taking Prilosec OTC. That product also worked well at preventing my acid reflux, but yet again my bowel movements were still not regular even with increasing my fiber intake. Thankfully for me this was right around the time when PrevAcid became available as an OTC product and I could not wait to make the switch. It was the best decision I ever made, because even though the milligrams per dose are essentially half of the prescription version it is just as effective for me and I can happily say that my bathroom routine has returned to its norm.

If you're like me and you have to take an acid reducer on a regular basis then I suggest you also enroll in the Amazon "subscribe & save" renewal program. It saves me money, it's delivered right to my door, and I don't have to worry about accidentally running out of my PrevAcid at the worst possible time. It's even cheaper than buying it on sale at my local grocery store combined with a coupon, so it's a no brainer.

[UPDATE 6/6/2011]

Unfortunately the subscribe & save price has sky-rocketed recently, so this is no longer the great deal that it once was. We can only hope that Amazon takes notice of how many people are canceling and skipping shipments, and they ultimately bring back the previously great prices. I have skipped several shipments myself and instead opted to buy it from my local grocery store combined with a coupon.

Read Best Reviews of Prevacid 24HR Capsules Here

I used Nexium until recently, until my insurance up the drug to Tier 1 ($60.00 co-pay). I've tried Prilosec OTC, but like others I've experienced unwanted side-effects (mild cramping, most notably). Recently I tried Prevacid OTC, and at first I was disappointed because it seemed to last only part of the day. So I tried taking it twice a day (somewhat equivalent to the 20mg of Nexium I had been taking once a day), and that works just fine for me. Of course, that also makes it roughly twice as expensive as Prilosec OTC, but I do like the fewer side-effects and it works almost as well as Nexium...

Mueller Hg80 Ankle Brace With Straps

Mueller HG80 Ankle Brace with strap - X LargeThis brace provides great support and is really good for post op patients such as myself. it is better than all the other lace up's I have been give from my ortho surgeon but the only draw back is it is hard to wear with all shoes as it is still rather bulky but I was able to wear it with a pair of heals the other day. I would suggest it.

It's a little hard to get on and off and tends to chafe so be sure to wear high soxs with it. Other then that, we loved this product. My husband pulled the tendons in his ankle loose from the bone and the Dr. suggested PT at first. 3M Tegaderm Transparent Film Dressing, Picture Frame Style

3M Tegaderm Transparent Film Dressing - 4' x 4 3/4' - - Box of 10I use these dressings to cover my fentanyl patch. This is the best size for complete coverage of that patch and the best price I have found is at Medex. These stay on under the shower and stay put until you take them off.

Adheres better than anything I have ever tried even in the shower. Holds tightly over other "self-adhesive" medicated patches so they don't come loose. Even after three days of use, the Tegaderm Dressing is still tight. A little pricey, but work every penny.

I'm a nurse and used quite a few different types of adhesive covers. Tegaderm is up there in the list of my favorite products. Just make sure that wherever you are going to put it, clean 'and dry' the area well, use no lotions or powders near where it will go. Keep you hands clean and dry as you prepare to place the cover on the 'paper frame that goes around the outside of it' should help keep the plastic cover firm enough while you center it over the wound or med patch. Gently place the Tegaderm sticky side down, centered right over the middle of your target. Smooth it outwards, from center out carefully not to create rolls or folds. If you lift up part of the Tegaderm to try and straighten any rolls out, it just won't stick as good as it would have should you have left it alone. I just smooth out any air bubbles (rarely any). C-a-r-e-f-u-l-l-y lift and pull off the tape that surrounds the perimeter of the patch (aka the window frame of the patch). Toss. If you have to keep track of how many days it's been on for the next change or to tell your nurse/doctor, take a black sharpie and just write in small letters/numbers today's date/time that you put it on. Or you could go crazy and create an art work on every Tegaderm you wear why not? Have fun.

Aloha, enjoy your Tegaderms!!!

This dressing is a life saver, as far as I'm concerned. I use it to make sure my patches for pain relief stay stuck.

There is something about my body chemistry that patches (be it pain relief or nicotine replacement) will not stay stuck. It gets very expensive (to say the least) when my patches fall off after only a few hours.

This dressing when placed over the patch makes sure that it stays put.

A great product.

Lifeline 29-Piece Ultralight Survival Kit

Lifeline 29-Piece Ultralight Survival KitThis is a small, very light and very portable survival kit. It is definitely a good value for the price, but it's mainly just a good start on well-stocked survival kit. All of the items come out of the container very easily and it is easy to replace them all.

I'll get right down to reviewing each item in this kit:

Waterproof Carry Case This is the plastic bag that the entire kit comes in. It is composed of thick clear plastic and it should be fairly durable in most situations. It will most likely keep your kit dry during the heaviest of rains but I'm not sure if it would stand up well if completely submerged in water.

Waterproof Matches These matches come in a small box with a striker pad on each side. The matches are fairly easy to light, even with the waterproof coating. The problem is that the matches aren't completely coated. Only the phosphorous tips are waterproof, so if your matches are soaked and you can get one to light, it's going to go out as soon as the phosphorous burns away. I would say that these matches should just be called water-resistant instead of waterproof, but I will just replace them with better ones.

Aluminum Foil A fairly large piece of foil which comes tightly folded in the kit. What else can I say? It's just aluminum foil and it can be very useful in some situations.

Emergency Blanket This is a silver Mylar blanket that is about 4'x 6'. If you don't know about Mylar, it is a great insulator. They use it for spacecraft and Astronaut suits to help protect them from radiation and freezing cold. This is useful to have for emergency situations where staying warm is a priority.

50' Fishing Line, 4 Hooks and 4 Sinkers All of these come packaged together in a small bag. The back of the box says that there is 50 feet of fishing line, but I'm not going to unravel it to make sure. The sinkers are very basic, and they don't have lips on the backs of them so they will be difficult to remove from a line once they are attached. The hooks seem good but they are small, so you will be lucky to catch a big fish with them.

8' Snare Wire This is just basic steel wire which can be useful in very many situations. It can also be used to catch small game if you need to. As with the fishing line the box says 8 feet, but it would be a pain to unravel it just to find out exactly how much there is.

Map Compass A simple compass for use with maps. It seems to work, but I've had several compasses that were better than this one.

Emergency Whistle A plastic whistle that comes with a nylon braided cord so you can wear it around your neck. I haven't really tested it yet, but it's a just a plastic whistle so I bet it works fine.

10' Emergency Cord Braided white nylon cord that can be useful in many situations, any type of cord like this is a must in any survival kit.

36" Duct Tape First off, this isn't Duck brand Duct Tape. This is off-brand tape and is certainly somewhat lacking in quality, but it is still Duct Tape and it is still extremely useful for very many reasons. Duct Tape is great to have in any survival kit.

Survival Guide Not much of a guide, really. It is a single piece of paper with printed instructions on both sides, but it does offer some sound advice for survival situations. It would be good to have if you have nothing else.

Reusable Zipper-Lock Bag This is just a plastic bag. A fairly large one, sure, but still just a standard plastic bag.

Surgical Blade A single stainless steel blade which comes sterilized in an aluminum foul package. Recommended for one-time use only, but you should clean it and keep it with you if you have used it already.

Wound Closure Strips Sterilized strips for closing certain wounds. Latex free and useful for deep cuts.

Safety Pins Three Safety Pins. Useful and good to have when you need them, but most people have some anyway.

Also, there is a small piece of paper in the kit with safety information on it. Not useful for anything except possibly starting fires so at least you'll have something to burn in a pinch.

I purchased this kit for a recent backpacking trip. Luckily I didn't need to use it but am glad that I had it. Everything is in that is needed if something should happen.

EMUgency All Purpose First Aid Pocket Stick - 0.25 oz - StickInstant relief from dry, cracked skin at the corner of my eye! Easy to apply and direct it right where you want it, feels great, non greasy, not much smell, stays where you put it. Been trying different products for cracked skin for 8 months and this is the only one that worked. Almost totally healed in 2 days! Can't wait to try it for bug bites and other things. I'll be buying more, direct from manufacturer because it's cheaper. Highly Recommend!
