Adventure Medical Kits Sol Survival Blanket, Two Person, 3.2 Ounce

Adventure Medical Kits Sol Survival Blanket, Two Person, 3.2-OunceI don't normally write reviews but after reading the inane 1-star review above I felt compelled to set the record straight. I recently returned from a 10-day backcountry trip where this handy blanket saved our butts multiples times so I can vouch 100% that it works exactly as described. The first time my GF and I were caught on a mountain during a very windy storm with no visibility and had to hunker down between some boulders for about an hour. The blanket is in fact easily large enough for two people and protected us from the rain and wind until we could move on. The second (and third, and fourth, and fifth, etc) times was when our tent fly developed a massive 1-foot tear and we had to drape the blanket between the fly and the tent to keep out the rain at night. The polyurethane proved to be quite durable and never ripped despite being tied down at the corners and placed under tension with the tent poles (which previous generation mylar blankets would never be able to handle). The comment about the lack of a fastener is just ridiculous. The actors in the picture are simply holding the edges closed from the inside with their hands, as anyone huddled under the blanket would have to do to keep out drafts. Nowhere on the packaging or description is a fastener mentioned, and no emergency blanket on the market includes a fastener. To be be truly useful, such a fastener would have to extend the length of the blanket, which would increased the cost and weight of the product while providing dubious utility. If you're looking for circumferential protection, buy an emergency bivy sac. In short, I would never go hiking or camping without one of these in my pack, and you shouldn't either.

This is an excellent and packable emergency blanket designed to accommodate two people. Much more durable than the cheap mylar blankets, this blanket is more resistant to tears and punctures, though one should still be careful when handling it. Not a bivy, this is a rectangular sheet that offers tremendous flexibility. These are the features I especially like:

* Large size Measuring a full 5 X 8 feet, this is a large sheet that offer the flexibility to shelter two people together. With this size, you can also use it to create an emergency shelter, use for signaling, collect water (either from rain or a condensation trap), etc. I prefer the larger two-person size as it gives me more options for its use. I can always cut it down slightly to use the material for other things in addition to sheltering.

* Durability This need not be a single use item. Unlike cheaper emergency blankets, this is tear resistant material that will still reflect body heat. (up to 90% according to the manufacturer) While it is still very thin, a minor tear or hole does not spell the end of its usefulness. It can be re-folded and placed back into its bag.

* Color Reflective on the inside, it is a highly visible red on the outside.

* Instructions I really like that instructions for use are actually printed on the sheet itself: Nothing to get lost or misplaced, the instructions are right there and they cover more than just sheltering from the cold. This alone could be a lifesaver for some.

* Reusable bag The bag that this sheet comes in is tough and resealable. Not only does it allow you to fold and store the blanket, but you can also use it to collect water, use as a sucking wound bandage, etc.

One doesn't need to be completely lost and in dire peril to use this; there are many circumstances whether on a day hike or longer excursion where this piece of kit could come in handy to make you more comfortable, safer, or more secure. Compact and durable, this blanket weighs only a few ounces; as a disaster preparedness item, this belongs in your day hike pack, camping gear, and car and home kits. Highly recommended.

a light weight, tough product for those times when staying warm and shelter are your top priorities. With names like Grylls, Cantebury and Lundin recommending a product iti s hard to dispute. so I bought the two pack and "field tested" one. The larger size lets me use it without having to hunker down too much. I am 6' 3" and husky. every one shuld have one of these in their vehicle or in their backpack.

Exactly as described. Much stronger than traditional space blankets. Field tested it tonight in low wind, 25 degrees(F) and when wrapped properly (wrap it around yourself completely!) it's surprising how much heat is retained. IMO the 96" is sufficient however the 60" width could be longer. Convenient resealable packaging as well.

Have used this while sleeping in the back of my Suburban. Lay this down underneath my sleeping bag. Comfy. Not flimsy like the others I've bought in the past.
