The Pencil Grip Writing C.L.A.W- Medium Set of 5 (Ass't Colors)

The Pencil Grip Writing C.L.A.W- Medium Set of 5Traditional pencil grips didn't work for a few of my students (they just grabbed around it with their whole hand) so I tried these. Pros: The kids like them, you just have to make sure they get their fingers in the right way and they work perfectly! Cons: They're kind of expensive and can rip pretty easily with regular kindergarten wear and tear.

This is the only pencil grip that has worked for one of my first grade students with autism. With all other grips, he still managed to hold the pencil incorrectly except for when an adult physically held his fingers in place. As long as his fingers get put into the correct holes, he can write beautifully and independently without an adult needing to reposition his fingers. I gave him one to take home so he can use a proper tri-pod grasp at home too.

Although this grip does a better job of holding the fingers in the correct position, it is harder to place in the proper place on the pencil itself. Too high and too low cause more problems and, of course, it must be moved to sharpen the pencil and then repositioned.

The only pencil grip we've found that you can't "cheat" your way around. Once your fingers are in the pockets, your grip is good! Recommended by my child's OT, he now uses these grips in school and at home. Comfortable to use, I had no idea my own handwriting grip was so bad until using the Claw.
