This is what my radiologist -and the entire Radiology Department at Inova Alexandria Hospital -give to their breast cancer patients undergoing radiation. They had me start applying it three times a day a few days before treatment. It was a month into my daily therapy before I even noticed a redness in the skin. This was as bad as the effects of the radiation got. They also distribute the ointment made from Calendula that comes in a tube and I found that applying this to the surgery scars gradually reduced the size of the keloids, which are now diminishing and, I hope, will eventually disappear. It's very gentle cream, is easily absorbed, and works. I wouldn't hesitate to use it for any skin irritation; if it can take care of potential after-effects of radiology, it should be good for many conditions. Good luck to all out there.Love this lotion and have for years. You don't use it very fast, only when needed for itches and rash (although at one time I did use it to calm my skin with roseatia (sp)), but when I needed to replace it, I couldn't find it in my local drug stores or natural food shops, so I had to look for it on Amazon.Every year at this time I get such itchy skin it drives me crazy. Not this year, because I use the Calendula lotion every morning. No more itch. Amazing!Let's make this very clear, it is not help for breast cancer. It is however, excellent for treatment of the burned skin radiation therapy causes.
My wife's Radiology M.D. recommended this to be used twice a day while my wife is undergoing radiation therapy for her breast cancer. It is doing an excellent job of minimizing the effects of the radiation on the skin. And the wonderful people at onlineRX here on Amazon were so great about shipping it out ASAP when they learned my wife was undergoing radiation therapy and our previous source for this product ran out. This was just prior to Memorial Day weekend . To go 3 days without this soothing product would have caused my wife a lot of discomfort and who knows how much more burned and damaged skin.
Both the product and the seller are truly wonderful. I only wish nobody else would ever need to go through radiation therapy for cancer, but I know better. If you are going to have to do it, do yourself a huge favor and stock up on Calendula First Aid lotion from the folks at onlineRX who sell it through Amazon.com.I've been using this on my shoulders, where I have an internal neck injury. I read that Calendula might help reduce inflammation and even possibly break up some scar tissue and that's why I started using it. I cannot say if it's doing that, but I keep putting it on. I also cannot say is this might be helping my headaches, but they have been better. Calendula is also helpful in burns and I swim a lot so put this on after. If nothing else, it's a nice lotion and I'll continue using it.
