First Aid: Combat Casualty Response Kit - Medic/Leg Rig BLACK

First Aid: Combat Casualty Response Kit - Medic/Leg Rig BLACKFirst review of a product on amazon, and I wish it where on a different subject matter. Facts are facts, it's an expensive buy. The tradeoff is...

1) Equipment designed to be used easily under duress

2) Sterile.

3) Nothing in this pack is beyond teaching another family member how to use. But these are not band-aids. This is life saving equipment.

I bought 2 at 40 dollars less than the retail sight is currently offering. Go amazon! Shipping was on time, and NAR rocks.

Invest in saftey, invest in security, and peace of mind.

Thanks for reading.

To be short and to the point, it's a rugged little Cordura nylon pack, stock full of tier 3 or(2aaa) for those med nerds out there of trauma suppression to cuts and bullet wounds. Get this rig if you want reliability in a small yet purpose built platform.

Duracell EasyTab DA10B12RC 1.4-Volt Zinc Air Hearing Aid Batteries, Size 10, 12-Count PackLast years price was even better, but still it was a good price. The batteries last as long as any I have used. They are fresh, and the service was prompt.

The plastic case these batteries come in is very sturdy, and nice and compact. It is easy to open and close. The battery life is good too; about the same time as Everready.

Proflex 1650 Economy Elastic Back Support, XL

Proflex 1650 Economy Elastic Back Support, XLI was very impressed with the quality of workmanship of the Proflex 1650 Economy Elastic Back Support. I would highly recommend this product. One reviewer commented that the suspenders are hard to adjust, but I found out that once you have it adjusted it works nicely you can open the belt while sitting and Velcro it back up when your working and it will not fall off your body. The only thing I had a hard time with is there was no sizing chart on the Amazon webpage so here it is... Hope it helps!

Proflex 1650 Economy Elastic Back Support Size Chart

SIZE: FITS WAISTS

X-Small: Up to 25½ (64 cm)

Small: 25-30½ (64-76cm)

Medium: 30-34½ (76-86cm)

Large: 34-38½ (86-97cm)

X-Large: 38-42½ (97-107cm)

2Xlarge: 42-46½ (107-117cm)

3Xlarge: 46-52½ (117-132cm)

4Xlarge: 52-58½ (132-147cm)

I have a 38" waist so your one size fits all average back support just barely fits, always on the verge of popping right off. From my experience XL is the same as getting a one-size. No difference whatsoever. So I thought a 2XL should do the trick. Turns out its WAY TOO BIG! At least from this company. Maybe would start at about 44" on up.

Buy Proflex 1650 Economy Elastic Back Support, XL Now

I have a bad back and this helps prevent back soreness and strain. It can be worn over or under clothing and fits a 32" (and probably a 34") waist or smaller. It is a big help with my posture when using a compute for long periods which is a problem for me.

It provides a light support for the back but isn't in the same league as the leather or heavy support belts for construction or weight lifting (or cost or discomfort either).

Can be a little fussy to adjust and I find the suspenders to be a determent which is why it gets a 4 (even if you remove the suspenders it is fussy to adjust).

As a server, I carry heavy trays around for 8 hours a day. I also have to bus tables that come in all heights. Bending over and standing back up with heavy trays and maneuvering around the dining room with them really used to put a strain on my back, so I bought one of these.

I haven't had a problem since and know that when I get older, I will thank myself for taking care of my back now.

Want Proflex 1650 Economy Elastic Back Support, XL Discount?

None of the companies who make these back supports seem to have ever tried their products on real people to get the sizing right. I don't see any size guidelines in the listing and the size chart offered in another review is pretty far off, from my experience. I have a waist size that varies from 42 to 46 depending on how active I am. Because the stretchy side wings are too long on the XL, it's really too big to give me strong back support. I just ordered the same thing in a size Large, which I expect to be pretty tight when my waist is at 44 inches -but it needs to be tight to provide good back support. This brand is very well made but it's useless if it doesn't fit right. I could probably have used the XL if they had simply made the side panel adjusters a bit shorter. They were definitely too long to give any meaningful adjustability -so you have to be within a few inches of the size it's made for or you will need a different size! As I said, this back support is very well-made but, size-wise, this company has not planned or designed very thoughtfully.

Abreva Abreva Cold Sore/Fever Blister Treatment

Abreva Cold Sore/Fever Blister Treatment, .07-Ounce TubeI hate cold sores. I HATE them. I hate them with such unbridled fury and passion that if I were to be judged at the time of my death, and the subject of my blistering hatred came up(no pun intended), Heaven wouldn't want me, and Hell would just plain fear me. But after so many years of putting up with this plague, there is a solution.

I usually get fever sores(cold sores) about 8-10 times a year. Usually every 2 months, I get a new outbreak around my lips. It could be a minor outbreak, with a simple little bump on the upper or lower lip, or a grotesque outbreak cluster of about 4-7 sores at once. Usually, these sores last 1-2 weeks, sometimes longer. The day I discovered Abreva, that all changed.

As it states, Abreva cuts down the duration of cold sores quite dramatically. If you manage to detect a cold sore as it just begins to form (usually indicated by a burning or tingling sensation on the lip area), application of Abreva will possibly event prevent the outbreak entirely. Upon a breakout of sores, I find that consistent application cuts the duration of sores from 1-2 weeks to a mere 1-3 days! Don't beleive the utterly ridiculous accusations that Abreva is a placebo...this stuff works, and it works well.

Aside from cutting down the duration of the sore, Abreva also releives any burning and itching you may get from them, so after a while you may not even realize that they're there. The cream is comfortable, and it doesn't sting, burn or itch after application. Though the white cream leaves a film after application, if you rub it in strongly the film disappears. Though the box recommends 4 applications a day, I usually double that to 8, and up to 10 times a day for those particularly brutal outbreaks.

There are some disadvantages to Abreva, and perhaps the greatest of all: the price!

Amazon.com, bless them, has this item listed at 13.99...try finding Abreva at that price anywhere else and you're in for a shocker...it usually goes for $18 on average, and we're talking a VERY small tube here. Don't let the size of the box fool you, the actual tube is less than half the size of my pinky finger! So in short, the cream is a marvel, but the price is simply outrageous. If you are plagued with cold sores on a routine basis, then its worth the price. If not, then I can't justify spending $18 on Abreva if you only get cold sores once in a blue moon. But like I said, thank you Amazon for the much cheaper price!

Another disadvantage is that the tube tends to leak. Upon opening the tube for the first time, the cream tends to stat pushing itself out. When you open the tube for next use, you may find that alot of the cream has been squished into the cap, and that more of it will push out immediately upon the cap being removed. This leads to a lot of waste of the product.

Another disadvantage is that the cream is virtually ineffective at treating cold sores that appear on the underside of the lip closer to the inside of your mouth, mainly because you'll end up inadvertantly licking the cream off or it will get washed away by your saliva.

Finally, the cream dries your lips up quite alot...I would recommend using chapstick to moisturize your lips while using Abreva, because they will become very dry and chapped with continued usage.

Overall, Abreva is one of the greatest things to happen to us cold sore slaves ever. Herpicin-L is utterly useless, Campophenique does little more than burn, dry out and taste awful, and chapstick only exacerbates the sore. Abreva is the way to go. If you can justify shelling out the cash for Abreva, then by all means, do it. Those of us that get multiple outbreaks a year will love it. Others who rarely get them needn't apply, unless the breakout is particularly brutal.

Abreva helped me on several occasions. I think it is a good product. It does not work as well on my wife. Since my wife has more frequent (and severe) outbreaks than I do, we have done quite a bit of product testing. Here is what we found:

First, sun exposure is her #1 trigger for an outbreak. Lip balm with SPF 15 has SIGNIFICANTLY reduced the number of outbreaks. Chapped lips also trigger an outbreak, so a quality lip balm (other than Carmex) again works well.

Second, there is a product called Viroxyn that works better than Abreva. The active ingredient is .13% benzalkonium chloride. The same active ingredient is also found in Bactine. Viroxyn is $10 per dose, and generic versions of Bactine are very inexpensive. Both my wife and I have used Bactine for our last couple of outbreaks, and we believe we have found the next-best thing to a cure. If you have success with Abreva, then you know that catching the cold sore early in its development is key. Same goes for our Bactine treatment. At first tingle, we saturate a q-tip with Bactine and rub the spot firmly for about 2 minutes. Repeat 4-6 times the first day. We find that the growth stops quickly, and the remaining (tiny) sore heals in a couple of days. If we catch it fast enough, it doesn't even scab over. I am not a doctor, and I am not qualified to give medical advice. I am sharing my personal experience in hopes that you can also find a way to reduce the pain and embarrasment from cold sores. Always follow label instructions for OTC medications.

Psst! Let me tell you a secret. I've been plagued with cold sores for perhaps forty years. I've never kept a detailed record, but it seems one has appeared on a semi-periodic basis every three to six months or so. (When I lived in the South Mississippi, actually for 15 months, I was curiously unafflicted for the entire time. Perhaps it was the diet of spinach greens, grits, fried chicken and Moon Pies.) I've tried everything. Applying hot poultices of puréed whale blubber and the rattles from two-headed rattlesnakes. Dancing naked under a full moon belting out the theme song to "Green Acres". Consulting shifty-eyed herbalists in refuse-strewn back alleys from Cairo to Lhassa. Sacrificing virgins. But, nothing has had the slightest therapeutic effect until ABREVA.

After forking over Big Bucks the first time for a teensy-weensy tube, it was a shattering self-revelation to consider how desperate I'd become. But, outside of that rip-roaring good time I once enjoyed in that flyblown Tripoli hotel room, it's the best money I've ever spent.

The key to using ABREVA is to get it on the site of the embryonic blemish as soon as you can, and ideally when you first feel that special tingle that screams, "You'd be better off with leprosy!" Without even excusing yourself to visit the loo, apply it during that power business lunch if you have to. In my experience over the last year and a half, the ointment stops cold the development of the blister. It's effective stuff.

Now, I realize that my endorsement here is purely anecdotal and not based on any scientific study I've done on a pork-barrel government grant. But, hey, what have you got to lose? Especially if you're discovering, as I did, that two-headed rattlesnakes are becoming easier to find than virgins, and those Third World back alleys are being bulldozed for McDonald's franchises.

I am a dentist who sees a lot of people with cold sores, which is reactivation of the Herpes virus. The cold sore is the virus replicating usually as a result of some sort of stress that decreases one's the immune system.

Abbreva has been shown in clinical studies to be effective, but the key with this treatment or any other for that matter is to start when you first feel the tingling of another cold sore coming on. If you wait and the cold sore erupts, virtually nothing will relieve it except time and your own immune response. So start applying Abbreva immediately for the best chance to limit the development of the cold sore.

Your dentist or doctor can prescribe anti-virals in either a topical form or a tablet form for severe cold sore cases, but once again, if it is not started immediately, the cold sore will develop and stay with you for 10 days or so. Ask for Zovirax or Denavir.

Always use a lip balm with sunscreen and too much sunlight can trigger a cold sore.

Abbreva is a good product. As with any product, it will not work in everyone who tries it but it is certainly worth a try.

The abreva product says for best results, begin using at the first sign of your oncoming coldsore. Well, I was one of the unlucky coldsore victoms who didn't catch onto the tingling warning sign soon enough. In a desperate attempt to at least sooth my new sore, itchy little pal, I started applying the Abreva every hour it seemed. At first i thought it was not doing me any good, but i kept on applying. Wow, does it work! My coldsores usually last about a week before starting to go away. Here i am...3 days later, and its already starting to heal! It didn't help ease my symptoms right away, but it really has helped to speed up the healing time.

Aearoaosafety 310-1001 EAR Classic Ear Plugs In Pillow Packs Category: EarplugsI've been looking for these earplugs ever since I retired from my job. I use them every day while working in my home shop. They work great!

I have been buying these earplugs since the early 2000s. I use them to sleep with. Sometimes I have problems getting the plug to set correctly in the ear canal. Basically, I usually turn on the water faucet a certain amount then insert the plugs. Using the noise of the water stream I can tell if the plugs have been inserted properly. I have found that there is a certain percentage that do not seem to work either because I inserted them wrong or they are not made properly. In spite of that I consider these very good plugs as long as they are inserted correctly. Just putting them in and not testing their noise reduction does not cut it for me. I sometimes use them when I study or read if there is some excessive noise for one reason or another. I definitely recommend them. In the years that I have been using them I have not had any unusual problems do to their use that I know of.

Readout Electronic Scale

Readout Electronic ScaleThe scale seem to work well. The set up is fairly straight forward as these things go. The only drawback is relatively short battery life in the base unit.

Documentation is a bit sparse but an easy to use scale with desired remote read-out capabilitybut sales info should make it clear that there is only one display -either the display snapped into the base or hung on the wall or elsewhere. 3345 BLUE EMS TRAUMA BAG 10'H X 7' D X 17' LIt's the size I expected, feels like tough material. I love the multitude of pockets. The one pocket I might modify is the big one in back. It's so spacious that things tend to slide right out as I'm opening the bag...I think I may add a velcro strap or something to help keep contents from spilling out. If placing something big and flat, like a book, it might stay in better.

Overall, I'm very pleased with the quality of the item, and the price was decent, too.

The zipper does not flow smoothly and seems lower quality. I thought this would come with a shoulder strap, but it doesn't.

High Five Cobalt Nitrile Exam Glove, Small

High Five Cobalt Nitrile Exam Glove, SmallI've used nitrile gloves since college and I pretty much use them for everything from cleaning to painting. These were the cheapest (in my opinion) on amazon w/o sacrificing qualities. they are great and the bright cobalt blue is nice versus the sickly pale hospital blue. I thought they were the long type, but I misread the dimensions.

My only issue is I have small hands, and the smalls are still quite baggy and wrinkly! annoying, I have to pull down the finger tips tight to do any detail work, but for general work they serve their purpose. Wish there was an extra small but I know thats one of those 1% of the sales type of thing.

Tender Ben's 30% Deet 12-count Travel Wipes

Tender Ben's 30% Deet 12-count Travel WipesBackground: I got devoured by mosquitoes on a trip to Mexico in 2009, and the assault on my system was enough to land me in hospital 3 times in a single week. (During the first two visits to different hospitals, my condition was misdiagnosed and I was given the wrong treatments; the third hospital figured out that I had developed an allergy to the mosquitoes). It seems that because I was bitten so many times (over 50 bites), my body went into some sort of shock and ultra-defence mode. As a result, I now have a very heightened sensitivity to all bug bites.

With this in mind, I intended to use as many precautions as possible for my recent trip to Hawaii. Here's how I protected myself (I'll discuss Ben's wipes in a moment):

STEP 1:

Started taking Vitamin B Complex two weeks before departure. I chose one that had huge %RDA of each type of Vitamin B (I think B12 is the most vital), and always took it in the morning because it can cause really awful nightmares if you take it close to bedtime.

STEP 2:

I sprayed all my holiday clothes with Sawyer's Permethrin Clothing Spray, which I will review separately. (Short answer: it seems to have worked very well.) http://www.amazon.com/Sawyer-SP657-Permethrin-Clothing-Repellent/dp/B001ANQVYU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1303674748&sr=8-1

STEP 3:

Covered all exposed areas with Ben's deet wipes every day. More specifics on this in a moment.

STEP 4:

Always had my "Zap It!" clicker tied to my handbag. I can't find these listed on Amazon, but I bought a pack of 4 online for about $30, and they each have about 10,000 clicks. This was one of my great investments! I definitely recommend it. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Zap-It-Mosquito-Bite-Relief/dp/B0012GMT0A/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1303674948&sr=8-2

STEP 5:

Kept some antihistamine tablets handy just in case I felt overwhelmed by itching, but luckily I didn't have to take any.

STEP 6:

I also kept some anti-itch creams at the ready, but the "Zap it!" made them largely unnecessary. (Combined with the fact that the other steps had minimised my bites in the first place)

....So, now that you know my 6-phase plan of assault, back to Ben's 30% Deet Wipes.

As bug repellent goes, these are very good. My travel companion got eaten alive, because he wasn't really protecting himself (and hadn't taken part in my patented Six Steps to Mozzie Freedom!). After one particularly bug-infested hike, I had 6 bites and he had about 25. So in terms of a side-by-side experiment, the wipes in conjunction with my other steps performed very well.

PROS:

I am asthmatic and these didn't aggravate my lungs at all. The odour is pretty low compared to "Off" spray or any others I've tried.

Being wipes, they're super easy to apply.

Having individual packs is SO convenient for hiking.

I think 30% Deet was just right for most of our hikes, but we were beseiged in some rainforesty areas, so I got a handful of bites.

Pretty fair price for a pack with three boxes in it. I have a few left over, even though we were in Hawaii for 2.5 weeks.

CONS:

No major cons, but I was always careful to wash my hands after applying because I had read that Deet tends to melt plastic. It did remove my toenail polish whenever I made accidental contact with it.

It's a little greasy, but that didn't bother me.

The main thing that annoyed me was that once in a while, I'd open a sachet and the wipe would be BONE DRY inside. There wasn't even the slightest residue; it was like it had never been treated with Deet. This was a bummer because I was worried about running out of wipes (I ended up over-rationing them, which resulted in a few bites).

The occasional "blank" wipe is why I'm knocking off a star. Otherwise these are a very decent product and I'd recommend them for any mosquito situation, including for those of us with allergies.

Happy Travels!

I bought this three-pack for our safari in Kenya because of the high (30%) DEET content. The wipes were easy to open and apply, and it was great to be able to just throw a few packets into my pocket before heading out on a dusk game drive. In 14 days, I did not get a SINGLE mosquito bite (to be fair, I did not see many mosquitos at all throughout the trip, and we did stay in nice lodges with mosquito netting around the beds). I am a mosquito magnet and allergic to boot (when something bites me, the bite swells up hugely and itches like crazy), so the fact that I did not get bitten does say quite a bit about these wipes. Nobody wants to rub DEET on their skin, of course, but if I have to again, I will go with these.

My husband purchased these last year and we used them all summer. I have a hard time going outside after 5pm because I get bitten so badly...the bugs seem to be drawn to me more than my husband! So I tried these wipes and went for a walk after 5pm...I saw bugs and gnats everywhere but they did not bother me! I didn't get one bite that evening. I've been using it ever since. Just put some on my daughter for a field trip where she had to go hiking and they warned of ticks. She came home without a single bite or tick. And the bugs really like her too. Thanks for a great product!

These wipes are the best thing I have found for applying repellent to my toddler. They are exactly 30% DEET (the max recommended by the AAP for kids), and there's no accidentally missing spots with the spray, or worse, accidentally spraying him in the face as he squirms to get away. Best of all, my child is normally a mosquito magnet, and he was able to go outside at dusk for an hour without a single bite. A first!

I carry a clean spare with me especially when we had the fires here in NM and they worked for the smoke also. My nose measures exactly 7/8" slotted and I use the Med. 7/8"-1 1/8" and it works perfect. I clean them using very warm (can barely put my had in it) water and a $5 ultra sound. I usually let it run for 10 minutes as my filter is full of pollen after only one day and when the air was smokey I'd have two filters dirty by the end of the day. By the way I recommended them to a friend who flys alot and he got some to help with the colds and flues as he was always getting sick on the 12+ hour flights. He thinks they have helped he hasn't been sick since he started using them. Don't be afraid to try them and it took me only about a day to get used to it, now if the pollen is bad I even sleep in it.WoodyKnows Ultra Thin Nasal Filters for Hay Fever, Pollen & Dust Allergy, Pet Hair and Dander Allergy, Allergic Asthma, Sinusitis, Rhinitis Relief 3-Pack (I-S)

For years, I've dreaded Spring. It has been my least favorite season thanks to ever-worsening tree pollen and the need for allergy drugs, air filters, pillowcase covers, plastic-covered windows and cumbersome masks.

This year, WoodyKnows filters gave me Spring back. Now I can actually enjoy this season. And my all-year, all-the-time dust allergy is much better, too.

I've been searching for a product just like this one for a long, long time and I've tried many. I'm very discerning about my gear and purchases. A discreet nasal filter made so much sense, but no one did it right until now.

I've been using the filters for about three months. I wear the WoodyKnows filters at home and on my commute to work. Now, at the height of the spring tree pollen season, I even wear them when I sleep. They are very comfortable if you get the right size (get the cheap sizing kit first!) and you get used to them fast.

They are not perfect 100-percent block-everything filters, but because I can wear them for hours and hours they are extremely effective at reducing my overall allergy load. And that makes a huge difference since allergy misery is a cummulative effect. By cutting down my exposure over big swaths of time, when I do get exposed to pollen or dust, my reaction is minimal.

Last year, I tried First Defense Nasal Screens. And they were a big help! They do in fact block more allergens than WoodyKnows. Their actual filtration is more effective. But First Defense had some serious downsides. 1) Despite being promoted as looking invisible, they make your nostrils disappear! The end effect is you either look, at best, like you have Band Aids on your nose or, at worst, like some kind of old Twilight Zone mutant. 2) They're not really reuseable. You can take them off and stick them back on the plastic sheet, but they lose adhesive effect each time and never fit quite right again. 3) The screens are effective, but they also reduce air flow making it noticably harder to breathe. 4) One sneeze and they're shot. There is no saving, cleaning or reusing them. They are pretty expensive given they are truly disposable, one-shot filters.

WoodyKnows solves all those problems. They really are hard to notice making public use possible without feeling self-conscious. They don't limit breathing. They are easy to clean and reuse (I use the recommended ultrasonic jewelry cleaner approach). Yeah, they don't filter out everything, but all of these positives mean you can actually use them a lot. And wearing a 95-percent filter for 12 hours a day does a lot more good than a 99-precent filter for 2 hours a day.

If you still need extra allergy or pollution protection, WoodyKnows plus a Vogmask are a good and stylish combo.

My young son also suffers from severe Spring allergies and he wears WoodyKnows, too. Last year, he often needed a nebulizer to help his strained breathing, but with WoodyKnows this year he hasn't needed the nebulizer once. I had been concerned about the filters looking weird and causing him problems at school, but they are very subtle and often you can't even tell he has them on. Sometimes kids ask him what's the thing on his nose and he tells them and that's the end of it. The one lookng at his nose the most is his sneezing, allergy-suffering teacher who is a bit envious.

WoodyKnows are not perfect:

-The filter frames tend to deform over time, causing problems with a good seal. They're promoted as having a lifespan of a month, but I'd say they work great for two weeks and then by the end of the third week they need replacing. Of course, I use them a lot longer and harder than most would. I have found that if you alternate between two sets of filters, you can get a lot more life out of them. One filter gets to "rest" and the shape of the frame tends to come back.

-They might be even more discrete if the connecting bridge between filters was transparent instead of a transluscent-whitish color.

-Would be good if there was a size between the III and IV models.

-I also wish they came with a carry case for a single filter instead of just the three-pack.

That said, these are minor quibbles with an awesome, incredibly helpful product.

After last year's brutal allergy season, I was on the verge of starting on months of expensive, painful and time-consuming allergy shots. Thanks to WoodyKnows, I have a cheaper, faster, more reliable alternative that doesn't involve many needles and hours in waiting rooms.

Thank you, WoodyKnows. Please succeed and stay in business. I don't want to face allergy season without you.

My daughter is very allergic to multiple things and anaphylactic to several things. She could not tolerate going outside due to pollens. She had to miss out on music and art lessons in school as she couldn't go into the room due to mild mould in the room which triggered asthma. No school excursions. She could not tolerate diesel fumes from the school bus or traffic. Since using Woody Knows filters, my daughter has a real life again. She can go outdoors with friends and enjoy most animals without getting asthma if she wears her filters. No more spending school holidays stuck inside the house. These filters have given my ddaughter and me out lives back.
