The American Diagnostic Corporation 342 Velcro leg tourniquet is not an effective tourniquet to stop severe life threatening hemorrhaging due to traumatic injuries from gunshot wounds, improvised explosive devices, edged weapons and other forms of trauma. The way this tourniquet is designed it will not be possible to tighten enough to stop severe bleeding. The description states that this tourniquet is for "first aid use" but this is not an emergency tourniquet. At best this tourniquet would only be effective to draw blood preferably in a clinical setting. If you are looking for an effective combat proven tourniquet then go with the Combat Application Tourniquet (C-A-T).

The C-A-T Combat Application Tourniquet, C-A-T, is an excellent and highly recommended addition to your first aid kit. The C-A-T Tourniquet has been researched and proven to be effective. When faced with a catastrophic injury to an arm or leg from a traumatic event with significant arterial bleeding then this tourniquet is a reliable and necessary piece of gear that has saved many lives. This tourniquet is fast and easy to apply one handed, under stressful conditions, and is combat proven on the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan. Time is of the essence when faced with a serious injury with significant bleeding requiring immediate and effective control of bleeding. This tourniquet can literally be the difference between life and death.

Based upon research from the United States Army Institute of Surgical Research (USAISR) Battlefield Tourniquet Recommendations Issued July 28, 2004:

"The Combat Application Tourniquet (C-A-T) was effective 100% of the time in quickly and effectively occluding arterial blood flow in both the upper and lower extremities in all trials...Pain scores (pinching and circumferential) were dramatically lower with the C-A-T than any other strap-style device evaluated."

Research after this 2004 study has come to the same conclusion. Hence, the Combat Application Tourniquet should be a part of any serious first aid kit or medic gear. Get this tourniquet and be prepared for the worst case scenario.

Overall, the American Diagnostic Corporation Velcro leg tourniquet is a gimmick that I would not count on to save your life if you have a severe hemorrhage. Don't waste your money on this tourniquet and instead invest in a Combat Application Tourniquet that actually works.

The instructions also talk about wrapping it around your 'thumb', meaning wherever this came from in China has no clue what they're doing.

This product is supposed to be an adult size and wouldn't fit over my thin petite friend with all my might to save her life. By the time we gave up she had a rubber burn on her leg. It's going to cost me more to ship it back for a refund so I'm batting zero. Seriously, just keep a belt handy in case of an emergency. That's what I'm planning to do. This page should have given exact length of product. I was having a little too much faith. My bad.

I read the previous three reviews and had to chime in. We use these in our clinic...for drawing blood or starting IVs and they work well. I don't believe they were made to act as a tourniquet to stop arterial bleeding. Some hints on why I think that: 1.) the standard for an arterial bleed tourniquet is 2 inches wide and this isn't that. 2.) a trauma tourniquet would need to be able to be "locked down" which velcro isn't capable of. These two characteristics mean that you wouldn't be able to apply and get the necessary pressure to accomplish your goal of stopping the blood loss.

I just wanted to clarify this before people buy blue, velcroed rubber thinking it's going to help in a serious arterial bleed. THIS IS NOT AN EMERGENCY USE TOURNIQUET!!

I would also seriously recommend taking a first aid class or at least becoming familiar with emergency techniques if you truly believe this product was designed to stop arterial blood flow. This kind of ignorance could be fatal, despite your best intentions and desire to be helpful.

Nicorette Mini Lozenge

These new mini lozenges come in 2 and 4 mg strengths, and are an improvement over the larger Commit-type nicotine lozenges that come in brand and generic form. However, as most people who have been using nicotine lozenges 'successfully' for any amount of time can tell you, the lozenges THEMSELVES are ADDICTIVE and can be very hard to quit because of the powerful oral gratification that they deliver. Do a Google search for Lozenges Addiction just those two words, and you will see first-hand accounts that ex-smokers have posted here and there online, explaining how they continued to use the lozenges for YEARS after they quit smoking, well beyond the time window when they were supposed to have stopped using them. Dental problems abound because, although they are sugar free, the inactive ingredients in them change mouth pH. And the sweeteners used can have addictive properties themselves.

On a more positive note, these new mini-lozenges are an improvement because there are more places in your mouth that you can put one. I imagine they will also be a hit for people trying to quit chewing tobacco because they tuck very nicely in the same places for example, under the upper lip. Tingly goodness, without the risk of cancer (one would hope)!

These work, for sure you won't want to go back to cigarettes after a few months of using them, and with any luck, you will be able to step down from 4 to 2 mg after a few weeks. The memory of smoking will fade, but the pleasures of nicotine use, and the associated risks such as high blood pressure will continue with use of the lozenges. Understand that you will need to face the challenge of quitting the lozenges down the road. Diet Coke and Altoids might do the trick. But what the heck it's still healthier than smoking...

I have tried the gum, but I found it hard on my teeth and gums. I also didn't like how quickly it lost its flavor. In short, I failed to quit smoking using the gum. I also failed to quit smoking on the patch. I personally need that quick release of nicotine. I bought these lozenges when I decided to give quitting another try. They are small, but powerful. I smoked menthol cigarettes, and the strong mint flavor is a good subsitution. I am only on my fifth day smoke-free, but I have already succeeded in situations that caused me to fail in the past. I spent hours with a smoker friend outside talking, while she smoked, and I had my mints. I can honestly say I wasn't tempted to smoke. I gave it four stars because the flavor and texture does take some getting used to. Everyone's taste will be different. Obviously the mints will only help, if you really want to quit. I highly reccommend them for people who are motivated, but have struggled with other nicotine replacement aids.

I've waited awhile to write this review because I've never been so passionately divided about a product. Like other reviewers have mentioned, this product is a double-edged sword. With any kind of motivation and the 4mg Mini Lozenge, you will be able to stop smoking. I have twice now. The first time it worked great, and when I weened myself off it didn't take more than a bump in the road to get me back to smoking. The second time, well I've been smoke free for over a year... but I never weened off the lozenges. Online boards have people taking these things for five plus years and going strong, and I've got to think I'll be joining them. There is some chatter online about them damaging your teeth so I've been fastidious about my dental care and so far no major issues. They are cheaper than cigarettes in my case, but not cheap nonetheless. But even if it costs me $20 a week (which is average thus far), and even if they did rot the teeth out of my head; I'm calm, relaxed, and happy as if I never quit smoking. And I won't get lung cancer or emphysema. For me, it's worth it.

These mints are great for those who want to stop smoking. You place them between your lip and gums, and they last almost an hour. They completely stop your craving. I don't recommend buying them on Amazon. I purchased a couple boxs from Amazon, and they when I got them they were set to expire in 4 days. I've used them in the past, and when the mints are close to their expiration date they are less effective and don't break down properly in your mouth. BEWARE of them selling them a few days before they expire. They will not have the same effect as fresh ones. The expiration date is located on the top of the box.

This stuff has been around even longer than I have which is saying something. I started using this powder when I was a kid and was very involved in sports. I have been using it ever since. While serving in the heat of the Far East quite a number of years ago, this stuff was worth its weight in gold...well, at least a box of Cool-Ade mix or three cold beers.

The scent is slightly medicated which I do not particularly like, but as long as I get relief it is a small price to pay and I could care less if I smell a bit like a medicine cabinet...far better to have a hint of medicine about you than to be constantly scratching your groin "area" and thighs in public!

I also find Gold Bond Powder to be quite effective for minor breakouts of poison ivy and chigger bites as it relives the itching.

All in all, I love this product and cannot remember a time that I was without it. Amazing that this stuff has been around since about 1907 or 1903 and is still a favorite of many...that alone will tell you much.

Kikkerland Empty First Aid Box, White

i have now bought this first aid box in both white and red, and i love both!

yes, the size is a bit smaller than i had anticipated (roughly 6"x8", and 3" deep), however i find for home use, this is the perfect size.

the left side is available for larger items (i.e.: gauze pads, very large band aids, perhaps a wrap), whereas the right side is sectioned off for smaller items (i.e.: band-aids, cleaning pads, antibiotic ointment).

i really do love these boxes, however if you were looking for something to put in an office, perhaps this would be a bit too small. i doubt you could fit one of those instant ice packs in here without issue, let alone much else after that except small band-aids.

either way, this sturdy metal first aid box is fantastic! i haven't hung mine up, but it does come with the necessary hardware to do so.

This is mounted above the toilet in the first floor bathroom and is proving to be very handy. It's small enough for the little ones not to really take notice but so convenient for us knowing where everyday medical supplies are and that it is at our disposal in a moments notice. Sure beats fishing underneath the sink for lost boxes of band aids and Neosporin.

Aquaphor Healing Ointment

For as long as I can remember I've had very dry cracked lips. Sometimes it would be so bad that I would have pieces of dried skin hanging loose on my lip. I tried almost every product ever recommend to me including expensive Skinceuticals Anti-Oxidant lip repair and Khiel's Lip Balm to no avail. While some of these products seemed to help a bit, in the end nothing really came close to Aquaphor.

Aquaphor stays on the lips longer and seems to actually work to make my lips not as dry and definitely more smooth and soft. I only have to apply it a few times a day and my lips are fine. It has been a godsend for me. I don't consider it expensive because a little goes a long way and compared to the other products I tried, it's cheap.

I wish they made Aquaphor in a lip balm applicator size and with sunscreen. When I go outside, I have to use a separate sunscreen product on my lips (sometimes over the Aquaphor) in order to protect agains sun damage.

I'm glad I found this product and will certainly continue to use it and drink plenty of water as well.

Ever since our little Santiago was born, we've been using this ointment on him when he has a rash, and it works wonders. It is healing beyind belief. Granted that the price is not the best (you could argue that Vaseline costs less, which is true), the results you see on your baby's skin with Aquaphor make it worth the extra couple of bucks.

We've also used it on our skin, on burns or irritated skin and it does the same wonders. We're happy to have received a sample of it while we were at the hospital!

This product has been a lifesaver. I used to buy the smaller tubes that you get in backs of two just out of convenience but just bought my first "big girl" tube because I go through it so quickly. I put it on my healing acne and DEFINITELY my dry cracked lips. After one application the dry skin flakes off! It is very shiny but most people think it's a gloss anyway. If I really can't go out with all that shine I sparingly use Burt's Bee's Grapefruit Lip Balm. I don't think I'll ever buy the tub only because it grosses me out to keep sticking my hands in there. My 2-month old baby had cradle cap around her ears, nose, eyebrows, forehead, and eyelids for days. Or at least it looked like cradle cap. It looked like very thick, flaky dry skin. It first appeared on her scalp. A day later, it was all around her ears, sides of her nose, eyebrows, forehead, and eyelids.

I use cotton for cleaning photographic film. The best cotton I ever used was Johnson & Johnson sterile rolls. It was clean with long fibers unfortunately no longer available. So I tried this. I can not use it. It leaves broken fibers and dirt on the film. It is OK for wiping the finished prints, but not for film that will be enlarged. The best substitute that I have found for the Johnson & Johnson sterile rolls is Johnson & Johnson balls, but the cotton is not as good as the discontinued rolls. I am still looking for suggestions for a high quality cotton roll that is available now

This is basically sheets of cotton that are what I think they use to make cotton balls. This is not what I was looking for. But for removing nail polish etc, it is great.

I developed a fairly large open spot shortly after surgery. I started using these pads once it was time for the wound to dry up. The pads did stick a little to the healing wound though not entirely, just to bits of it. It was definitely better than regular gauze, but I thought they would be better. I think if it would be fine for minor scrapes and cuts, but not for my particular case.

Excellent price on these, the first time I used them, I had done a great deal of abrasion damage to my knee, they didn't stick at all the the wound, I was able to change the bandage 3 times per day without the wound sticking at all, they are a great thing to keep around.

Band-Aid Band-Aid Flexible Fabric Adhesive Bandages All One Size

This review is not about the Flexible Fabric Band-Aid. I have been using the 1x3 inch Fabric Band-Aids for years, and order them by the 100-count box. It's a good product.

The product offered here by Pharmapacks and others Band-Aid Johnson & Johnson Band-Aid, Flexible Fabric, 100-Count Boxes is the 3/4 x 3 inch version. The images are poor, and the product description is as follows: "Product Dimensions: 6 x 5 x 4 inches ; 2.4 ounces". Clearly that is not the case. I ordered 3 boxes based on the reviews that mention a 1x3 Band-Aid. Pharmapacks stoutly defends sending the smaller product, so I'm stuck.

The moral of the story is: If the seller can't provide a clear image and description of the product, don't buy it. Getting the wrong product is your fault (and expense), not theirs.

It is just about impossible to find these kind of bandages around where I live, all you can find are boxes of plastic or mixed sizes. And in the mixed sizes, the 1" x 3" amount to a whole 5 bandages. To me the smaller ones are useless, so I would be paying for bandages I would never use.

Sometimes it's really worth going with a generic brand, and sometimes it's not...the latter is true here. Band-Aid's the real thing, and I am glad I found this product at this price at this size. I mean "size" in two ways: the 3" bandage with no little ones that no one uses...the tiny strip that you couldn't fit on anything but a goldfish, and the little dot--PARTICULARLY the little dot. Who the hell uses those?

Well, at least I don't.

I own a farm, with horses, chickens, dogs, cats, guinea fowl and probably something else I can't remember (oh--finches...but I don't really think they count as "farm" animals), and working with manure, fencing (electric and board fencing), all sorts of tools, wheelbarrows, a tractor, etc, etc.,...well, all these things add up to lots of little and not-so-little cuts. I'm always looking for a bandage that will A) cover the wound, and B) stay on, and C) have a little "backbone" to it.

These fabric bandages do the job. I'm extremely pleased with them, and I will probably put these on subscription...

Anyway, I'm very happy with this product.

These are great to have on hand. They are a full one inch wide, and stay put! Yet, they come off easily. I have given so many small bandages away; they are useless. I want the gauze full bandage, and this is it! The box of 100 means we won't run out. The price was very good, and the product is exactly what we were looking for.
